Hopefully the new skill will run into some problems during development and be delayed till 2024.

Reason?

I'll think Jagex may actually want to push it like how Blizzard bought a company and redirect all 100 developers of it to work on WoW: Dragonflight and the new WoW Mobile games, considering the new skill is likely the biggest project and the last weapon Jagex have to make their $12.5 a month subscription rate still viable.

FSW may be good on a short term basis, but it is always big persistent updates that let an MMORPG like Runescape live and grow for 20+ years.

the new skill could be called Cosmology using the following skills:

https://runescape.wiki/w/Cosmology

Using existing content such as the World Gate.

This opens a vast potential of exploration and lore of the different worlds/realms/afterlifes "https://runescape.wiki/w/Category:Realms" as well as new potential skilling/Combat locations for every single skill such as much needed reworks for Woodcutting (including a new axe), Construction and possibly Agility.

If they keep going the way they have with other recent skills, I could definitely see them going with something like this. Whatever it turns out to be, I expect that it won't be any sort of "classic" skill. Another lore-based or otherwise world-expanding (I don't mean any new physical zones) seems the most likely.

Though honestly, I'd say I'm part of the group that advocates for no new skills. At least not for quite some time. I wasn't impressed by the dev diary in general. Nor was I impressed by the one where this new guy introduced himself. It has all just confirmed for me that RuneScape is continuing to try to 'compete' with modern triple-A MMOs and is throwing away its identity in the process. Which is made all the more depressing by the fact that the state of modern MMOs is so dire. In my opinion anyways. They've all hopped on the treadmill train and care more about shiny new content, overly dramatic storylines, and graphical overhauls than actually supporting the heart of what makes their games work in the first place.

But well, I suppose it's ultimately the players' fault more than the developers. The developers have a business to run and are forced to cater to players' unhealthy habits...

RS3 is definitely not competing with MMOs, modern or not as these MMOs don't feature skills and levels anymore. They just outright sell instant max level boosts or story skips. RS3 still value skills.

honestly yeah, i'd rather they take more time on this new skill. Make sure it comes out good. rushed content is bad content.

With this logic they might as well never release it as anyone could claim it was 'too soon" no matter how long they work on it.

Hopefully its another combat skill, we got too many skilling skills!

Why not a GENERAL PURPOSE skill like Archaeology and Invention that cover all the other skills?

Agreed. Every skill since Hunter has been designed to, at bare minimum, mesh heavily with other skills and every skill since then aside from Divination has been designed to cover both Combat and skilling:

- Summoning's familiars provide benefits to both skillers and killers.
- Dungeoneering is heavily combat focused but offers skilling rewards as well.
- Divination was the closest to a traditional self-contained skill at launch, but even in its earliest form featured Divine Locations to aid in other Gathering skills.
- Invention's benefits are spread across the entire game.
- Archaeology's relics provided a wide variety of buffs to both skilling and killing while certain mysteries unlocking features like Ancient Gizmos and demon Summoning.

There's no reason to assume that this one will be any different.
