I think a skill like archeology could fit the current meta of the game without breaking it.
it would fit into the lore of finding artifacts which then can buff current items for PvE reasons (like how they did with dragon enhanced weapons)
It could be a way to integrate new cosmetic kits into the game for the fashion scape players while also make the ornament kits viable to PvE by collecting artifacts that enchant the ornament kit.
there's an infinite number of possibilities that could come from an update like this when your able to enchant cosmetic pieces. for instance, you could enchant a chest piece to have -10 kg. Doesn't break the game but then there could be new dungeons added that require -45kg meaning you would have to enchant a lot of gear. Or even being able to enchant +2 prayer bonus to armor that is only activated during boss fights / in boss rooms or even slayer monsters. While +2 prayer doesn't sound like that much, enchanting 9 pieces of gear with it is pretty substantial.
I get that a skill like this would be monotonous, similar to rune crafting and construction, but they're also some of the most rewarding skills in the game.
Why not an enchanting skill? that would be a bank standing skill which most people are against.
Archeology would require you to find / dig up the enchants / cosmetics. Maybe even a hidden technique of combining runite with iron to make a Damascus steel that bridges the gap between runite and dragon (level 50 gear) for mid level players.
i know a lot of people are thinking it will be:
Necromancy - probably wont be, because summoning ruined the game the first time.. reason why its 2007 scape.
Sailing - Why implement teleportation 2.0? if they're going to make a new island we would just teleport to it. we don't need sailing for new islands / content to be made which is apparently the biggest argument for it.
