The Time/World Guardian is always a human, but lots of players have always been asking to be able to play as a different race. RS3 has put up a video showing back in 2004 there was actually a secret race in the making - demons, but it was scratched before it saw daylight:

Why would they bring up a footage lost over 18 years today in 2023? Are they contemplating letting us choose to play as non-human finally while working on the Avatar Refresh project?

Maybe they are just showcasing the things that have happened in the game in the past 22 years? Not everything is a hint of future content.

Why now and why the playable demon races and not other things happened in the past?

Because its something that not many people know about that happened in the game? when is the last time you heard about the beta for rs2?

But again, why didn't Jagex bring this up the last 18 years, and why didn't OSRS bring up this kind of RSC stuff?

OSRS won't because to them its only been 10 years ( 10 years in FEB). They have no reason to bring it up at all

I can't answer why they choose now to show it, only that I believe its being used as a weird fact and nothing more.

It is not a weird fact. They didn't go forward with the Demon Race in 2004 because of character model issues especially with the lousy RSC game engine. Now RS3 has been working on Avatar Refresh and the underlining game engine for a while. We have even been playing as non-human NPC and seeing Jmods even showing up as huge NPC like Solak and Vorago. The technology for character races may be here, or soon to be here, in RS3.

YES, its time this game needs BIG UPGRADE and ofc choosing races would be amazing! I want to be an ELF :D

Sure, why not elves? Perhaps elves can have +1% agility xp rate among other perks like cheaper cost and more efficiency using Crystal gear?

Likewise, dwarves can have +1% xp rate in mining and smithing but -2% agility xp rate and higher rockatunity and crit chance, and dragonkin can have +1% Archaeology and more efficiency on dragon gear and fighting against dragons?

That's a hard take, players obviously don't care at all about the main point of FSW and just wanted the cosmetic items to sell and or to wear, this being a small amount of AFK experts.

Cool ideas are always welcomed but when they are implemented into useless things just for the company to generate money for themselves is when cancer starts to develop, and for some reason this game has become infamous for it as of late.

I'm not saying Dilberts idea itself is bad, but there's a time and place for everything and it's just a big no for this game and that idea.
Always think creatively, and you shall be creative.

The other reason why playable race is far more feasible now in 2023 than 2004 is the huge volume of non-human cosmetics RS3 has developed over these years.

When we can look like foxes, cows and whatever you can think of now, we are essentially knocking on the door of being to play as foxes, cows etc.

RS3 can't even get a single race looking right, how are they going to get a second???

Really? I think even some OSRS players who didn't like the look of the RS3 character model has suddenly loved the RS3's jointed-eye elves when their game is starting to copy RS3 now.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I am glad RS3 is making their Avatar Refresh among other graphics according to the preference of the general public and not just a few players.

At least RS3 has been very consistent to improve their "single race" by adding all sorts of cosmetics, animations and facial expressions. They have yet to sell out to multiple 3PCs to get their "single race" looking right.

Moia has her own combat system, it might be cool to make that into a repeatable PVM encounter with a drop table.

Also, I think it might be cool to have a skilling boss where all the players transform into a different species and that gives us certain abilities based on skills.

It would be visually interesting at least. :p

Could get new playable races in the dimension of disaster seeing as how it's a dark version of the game. This way new races can be played in only that limited area with less development time needed.

No. The reason why RS3 doesn't want to rush the Avatar Refresh project is because they want it to be a feasible for the General Public. New races, when they come, is going to be a game changing update all new, existing and returning players are going to enjoy going into the next 22 years.
