There are quite a few things not exactly clear when it comes to f2p. Yew and Magic are now officially high level trees, which by definition shouldn't be available to f2p anymore (I mean the latter even isn't technically, just the logs you have to gain via other sources) - wheras the actually intended low levelled ones aren't. F2p would need access to teak and acadia trees as compensation, which both currently aren't anywhere in the free world.
To be fair I hadn't expected they would create a proper progression all with existing trees. I basically had expected we'll have 1-10-20-30-40-50-60 with regular, oak, willow, maple, yew, magic and elder - it's not more off than status quo. The only difference is current woodcutting is concealing with overinflated low and mid levelled features it not having core features past 60, rather than outright showing it. Eventually in a follow up they would add new ones for 70, 80 and 90.
But I think it's not to shabby they're ascending teak, acadia and mahogany to regular trees - the stuff exists after all. And since they see magic trees as high levelled - why not make them one? Runite went the other way around - they've treated it as the mid (or even low taking its original pre-eoc incarnation) levelled thing it is.
And yeah obviously how is the interaction changed with the associated skills? I mean - that update was desperately needed, since woodcutting is easily the most broken skill in the game right now - but with the information presented, we'll have another can of worms opened. Is it worse than status quo? Can't really say it - certainly not for members.
Obviously fletching should have new teak and acadia bows for f2p (as well as mahogany for p2p), whereas yew and magic (and elder) need to be buffed up to fit their now intended tiers and be made p2p objects.
I mean if it happens now or not - this is how it has to be eventually. If their approach to fix one skill at a time works, rather than a full cluster - let's see...

Generally there is nothing, that should speak against having the boxes available to f2p somehow. Teak logs already are free objects (dunno, the tree isn't after all - possibly via some kind of drop?), acadia isn't. Both trees easily enough could be added somewhere in the f2p portion of the desert without feeling out of place - there is a beautiful oasis without too much of f2p purpose after all for quite some time now.
Worst case possibly is them tagging all boxes up to acadia as f2p objects, preventing f2p ironmen to fletch one above willow. And if they aren't at all - nag them until they are.
