Edit: this is relevant to the thread I created in regard to the development process. I am not and literally cannot be derailing my own ideas. Thanks!

I think the upcoming farming update highlights one of their problems. They are using progression like in the Crock Oasis, but expanding it like an actual update to a skill. Since everyone has lvl 120 already you don't just give the rewards, you add some level of extra progression to unlock them.

It is a great strategy, but it doesn't apply to EVERYTHING.

They struggle so badly with rewards vs updates. It's not as difficult as they make it out to be, but the farm update shows a lack of understanding.

The entire thing is completionist mumbo jumbo. It's barely even worthy of analysis, let alone actual live testing on a beta server.

But it's all a permanent part of the game, and everyone has to deal with it. They will. That's all that matters for data science. Victory! Success! Only a fool would disagree.

speaking of data science... Leon Fetsinger and James Carlsmith did the definitive studies on cognitive dissonance in 1954 and wiki entries for either their names or "social comparison theory" will bring up some of the diction we need for this. They had Stanford kids do boring things with spools and wood pegs. Then asked them how important the tasks were in different ways, and got weirdly different answers.

I posit everything but "confirmation bias" is now rather frowned upon by rsof, and that its become far more difficult to put a hypothesis to peer review here.

As much as we are told rs game design is bulwarked against ochlocracy... this farming update feels like its delivered to stifle discontent about other updates that werent ready, and still arent. Like... get back on the wheel hamsters!

I dont know if you saw these beats play out, but a week ago you posted "yay we dont have to chase our croc to get scarabs!" right? Hours later clip of a guy alching stuff while his croc chases scarabs posted to reddit, and mod luma replied 'oh boy we'll have to fix that.' no no no no. thats how it should always have been.

what needs audit is the labeled "community" spaces hiding only conspiracy to boost fightless castle wars. thats not "help" at all. het's oasis was zero sum the first week, and it shouldnt have been, and cw which is supposed to be zero sum... is almost always sabotaged by other people twiddling their wood pegs proudly (like when you try to win, but guy on your team gets enemy flag and wont run it).
I have quit rsof because moderator found comments about darklight bonus damage on demons "off topic" for wildy flash mobs full of demons

Man JR, you sent ME to the dictionary and wiki on some of that. Good stuff. Contradictions are everywhere. I have accepted that long ago, as well as confirmation bias. I was always aware from observing it in others. I think alot of people might relate to those ideas rather than actually understanding them.

One thing I want to write about is the actual reasons why I don't engage in some content and never would. But this forum is way too hostile for that level of honesty.

@Jeremy most definitely. The dream of iaia was finishing the previous unfinished concept of gathering resources at our Anachronia base camp. To give those an actual long term purpose, which is something I complained about in the past. They made that system only to slow us down, there was no apparent plan for it.

They also made it so we can get camp resources as a drop, so that implied there was extra value to be had, rather than a temporary and very small boost. (the resource drops were essentially useless) The dream of iaia XP was buffed after major complaints about the rewards. But we also lost TH key sales in a possibly related adjustment.

If they are holding back these 'fixes' for PR reasons that just never pays off. Nobody thanks them for fixing things. Out of sight, out of mind. In sight can lead to unnecessarily bad reviews. That should be avoided.

Yes. Your functional expression about dream iaia release with stuff missing has worked many times this way where devs working on a cape, working on a cape, then told to "release the cape!" The devs might have weak protest that "cape not ready it doesnt hang on the rack yet," but told "we'll patch it later if anyone asks for it," but then that filtered through __, and those many many times using same handle in different spaces with coin slots, and everything there is about stroking egos, right? not a secret. easy to find. from that mentality comes a bizarre directive "ah ah ah no shaming," but... um... in what way are we always supposed to transform "it sucks this cape doesnt hang on the rack!" past the __ team who will get it back to devs like "oh hey they did ask for the cape to hang on the rack. it was found relevant." The coin slotted stroker __ team is instead like "ew toxic. its a complaint." but like... we love the cape!

sigh.

This is even better. Nobody would believe if I suggested this was true, but somehow fixes are made and not released. They could have an entire warehouse full of them, but can't decide if they are rewards, updates or fixes.

JagexRamen on Reddit:

Did the work for this on post-release week for the new capes + Zuk Capes.

I just chased the status of the job and it looks like it got a little lost somewhere. Have given it a prod and requested it makes the RC build as it's a fix from a recent update.

All I can give you for now :)
