Just reading the guide again, it says "the player should wait until the loot pile appears" before using the hammer on the alta?
Sorry, i do not recall ever seeing a loot pile before?
As you can tell ive not done godwars before, never needed to, so how does one set it so a loot pile appears?

No always normal mode.
However, I just got soul from Kree arra, but i was very slow to do it, but i still got it, so i have no idea why this worked slow but the other didnt work quickly, is there an order that you do the generals?
I have to say now i look back on the Zilyana kills (6 times) i never saw a loot pile?

Shouldn't be a specific order. Just make sure you're standing next to the altar, keep auto retaliate off, ignore the bodyguards, and just use the thingy on the altar when the general dies. Be quick, but not too quick. Seems like that's what you did on the Arma boss, so just repeat that for the others.

Honestly, I know nothing about the loot pile info, I did it before there was any info on the wiki. Done it on 2nd account also with no problem. No order to do them in AFAIK but I left Zammy till last both times as he works better without prayer and too lazy to bring any.

I did it in a public room not instanced if that helps and no one else in there with me so I did all the damage. Did you get the message in chat box something like being too slow and the power already faded?

Try a world with low ping. Maybe no loot pile because someone damage him before you got there? Get a 2nd kill without leaving the room to be sure and make sure you are using no other style of attack.

If no loot pile is appearing I wonder if you have items on your toolbelt that affect it. The bone crusher to auto bury bones and the one that picks up gp. The GWD1 bosses often seem to drop gp as loot.

edit to add: I haven't reached the necro level to get the spiritbound hammer. I might have problems too due to being an older player with a slower reaction time
