It's a part of the weekly buffs that are part of the Christmas Event

https://runescape.wiki/w/2023_Christmas_event#Weekly_buffs
:

Each week from 4 December 2023 will add a new stacking buff that builds each week until 4 January 2024. The following effects activate automatically at the beginning of the week:

4 December 2023: Free Daily Challenge Extensions
11 December 2023: Tier 4 Luck for all
18 December 2023: Free Aura resets
25 December 2023: Safe deaths

The Free Daily Challenge Extensions buff causes any newly rolled daily challenges to be automatically extended without using any vis wax.

Great buff as it was my mistake forgetting to claim the rewards for one daily challenge. I was set to miss the final tier of the weekly rewards. Now that, I got it thanks to this week's bonus Christmas buff. I am also thankful for the double daily rewards from daily challenges. This is extremely helpful for my new alt to catch up.

Are the buffs active for the one day or for the entire week until the next buff?

It is a weekly buff. One type of buffs for each of the four holiday weeks following. The current week 1 double daily challenge buff should last 7 days, and then the next buff take over afterward.

does stacking buff mean the buffs don't expire when the next week's buffs are added and we can have all 4 buffs at the same time for the month?
Wiki kind of confusing.

not particularly thrilled with this "buff".

Doing doubled tasks for the same single santa letter and three keys, only to collect all daily rewards for the week a few days early? whoopie.

Okay, okay, the small amount of xp gained from doing each individual task twice to get the same reward, yeah.

But the overall reward is not increased, and the time spent to gain the letter is doubled. Not a buff.

Odd thing last night, received a letter from delivering a present, plus the usual (doubled) challenges and Clementine. Tried some of the grindfest but no additional letter (didn't expect a fourth so much as testing to see if the present letter was a glitch or a surprise bonus).

This event is kind of all over the place.

Would not mind if this "buff" expired at the end of the week.
