> Polls hadn't been common for a while, so seeing them is generally going to make players that like voicing their opinion happier simply out of the understanding that the opportunity hasn't been around all that often.
> Player excitement about polls is an indicator of the community and the development team sharing a generally good feeling about the game itself. If players are feeling good about their ability to leave suggestions for content and feel like Jagex often enough takes those opinions into account, then the polls have value. The opposite happens if, too often, Jagex ignores the poll results and treads their own path, because then players will invariably feel like the company couldn't care less about how they feel, even if they bother to ask.
> Polls provide a means for players to interact with the development team directly. Even on our side of the community, where Jagex is given most of the creative liberty, players being able to answer questions from the company and provide input on a more regular basis builds trust between the two groups. Utilizing polls, and improving other direct means of communication with players (the newspost. Maybe one day.) facilitates this connection and can be integral to any MMO's success.
While I don't think Jagex has erased my concerns about how it communicates with us just yet, I can definitely agree that things have certainly improved since the arrival of Mod Doom, and that gives -me- excitement about the future of the game.
Now, if when they do these polls, they are able to have all of the details in place beforehand, and notify the community of any potential changes when the first poll is released, a lot of the issues we saw with the Retro Override polling would be addressed. That's the company's next step.
