So whoever designed the Grove update clearly never heard of maple trees being a thing.

There's none in the grove.

Why?

There also are no teak, acadia, mahogany and magic trees when it comes to core trees. I guess they wanted to provide a selection of things all over the levels and not every singular tree, that exists in the game. Half of the trees are there, the other half is not. Dunno what's the issue exactly. You could grow one in the patch though - which you - using the hydra familiar - could cut like forever. Improvements: Tooltip / (F2P) QoL v2

I used the tree patch to grow a (token) Magic tree, just because it seemed criminal not for there to be one already...
