If anyone has been listening to tech news recently, they may have heard about unity making massive changes to their fee charges. I know back in the early history there was absolutely no chance that any part of RuneScape was written in Unity. However, with the introduction of the phone apps and such does anyone know if Jagex uses Unity now? I am worried that it could be a nail in the coffin for free play accounts.

If memory servers me right, Jagex uses RuneTek to develop and run RuneScape which is proprietary software developed by Jagex aka Jagex made it in house and they solely own it. I have a

one of the funniest comments i heard about runetek was it was made to translate their plans to java because noone actually knew how to code in java. but they got rid of java a long time ago so if its still around is a question.

It's probably still used. Otherwise they'd need to have rewritten the whole game... It's the foundation of the whole game, no?

As far as I know, RuneScape is still running on their in-house engine RuneTek (
https://runescape.wiki/w/RuneTek
). If that's the case, Old School RuneScape is running on RuneTek version 3 and RuneScape (3) is running on RuneTek version 7. Surely, the version revision of each engine would have changed due to updates.

I can't find any publicly available information to suggest that Jagex abandoned their in-house engine for third party ones, but I admit I only dug around for a few minutes.
