You might have been unlucky and bought some that had bulb mites or a virus. Or might have been too late planting that season for them to flower the following Spring. Or too shallow in planting (6 inches recommended).

If you get a poor show again this year - it's back to the drawing board.

Did you refrigerate them before planting them? Seeds and bulbs won't grow until they've been through their "sleep" period (simulating winter).
