As far as the Highway Traffic Act is concerned, it is categorized as a bicycle, and as such, you don't need a licence, insurance, registration, plates, stickers, or even gas.
They run about $2800 from the manufacturer... then about $600 in freight... taxes... so at the end of the day, just under $4000.
BUT... no licence, no registration, no insurance, and no gas. It literally costs me around 25 cents to charge it. The upfront costs are a little high, but, there should be no further costs for a few years (until it's time to get new batteries).
Batteries can be pricey. The ones in it (there are 6) are lead acid batteries, and they're like $100 a pop. I could swap out for some lithium ion, which would be amazing, but, they're like, twice the price. But, there are some great advancements going on in the battery world, so hopefully when it's time for new ones, things will be even better, and hopefully cheaper.
