Wow, this is an excellently written guide! Thanks so much for providing this. From now on, I will direct players to this thread whenever they need assistance with their 2-Step Verification.
This happens when someone knows your log in name. If I had access to your log in name, I can request as many "password reset" emails to your registered email address as I wish. Now, these are worthless if your registered email address is completely secured with 2-Step Verification. It isn't possible to change your password unless you click on that reset link sent by Jagex.
Eventually, the hijacker(s) will grow tire and stop doing that; however, it doesn't hurt to double check both your account and email security
.
There is a way to see if they know your log in name or not: changing your current registered email address. If you keep getting the same emails on the
new
registered email address, then it's likely that the person trying knows your log in name. If you keep getting the same emails on the
old
registered email address, then it's likely that the person is only trying to send you a phishing link to the email address and does not know your log in name.
While I appreciate the sentiment and unfortunate situation behind your post, it doesn't belong here; please make your own thread under the Community Led Account Help forum section to get assistance with this.
