BTW, we probably should have sensed something on the financial sides of Jagex are poised to change when they are still having problems filing their 2022 Companies House mandated financial statements almost 2 weeks late now.

The RSOF hasn't been drawing a lot of traffic for years. It wasn't even recent but Jagex didn't close them. The traffic sentiments aren't any different now for RSOF, but it may become an issue when Jagex have to diversify.

@Abby Taylor

There are social media with visual and audio features I have been enjoying for over a decade, not anything different to me without the RSOF. Some games I play still have forums with constructive discussions and not only bug reports.

The real actual reason the forums died, the honest to god truth.

Because there is no microtransaction or way for jagex to monetize it.

reading the wall of text on the previous page, with: "maybe if new technologies allow forums to have some kinds of audio and visual features", and "There are social media with visual and audio features I have been enjoying for over a decade" on this page, the mind reels.

Perhaps that is why he is business as usual instead of melting down over the loss of this venue? For ten years, people somewhere else have been getting it in technicolor and Dolby surround.

Can you imagine? lol, yikes--I can.

Too many threads locked. We couldn't discuss most of the topics we wanted to discuss.

I agree :(

I remember I had a thread locked simply due to a player targeting it with 161 spam posts. When moderators posted that this individual spamming the thread may result in my thread being locked, they continued with no repercussions :/.

Sort of actually, as most often when I am reading and typing in the RSOF, I am also listening to music, new, and other interesting audio content including ones from RS content creators in the background.

All kinds of text based forums are just nice to have, but hardly anything necessary in the modern era.

BTW, I have often linked sources for information and solutions to questions some RSOF asked. If you pay attention, you should see most of the time they contain visual and audio content. Few modern internet users in 2024 will look up purely text based guide for information and answers.

''we've therefore decided to channel more of our staff time and resources into those platforms for improved engagement.''

Load of crap. It's been years since J mods/ community momagers have posted on the forums. Forum mods do not even get paid.

You nailed it. This is a classic example of a self-fulfilling prophesy.

When the J-mods decided to abandon this forum to splash around in the social-media cesspools to spend more time with the teeny-boppers over their loyal playerbase, naturally the gushing fanlings followed them there. The mods spent more time there and clearly none here, driving even more traffic away from the RSOF and into the social-media sewers.

Just imagine how different the situation might be now, if Jagex had only been more active on their own forums - driving traffic away from third-party sites instead of towards them. Perhaps then we might have seen very different newsposts from Jagex announcing new features coming to the RSOF, alongside the shutting down of the RS Discord servers, due to a lack of usage.

It is as if they said their thumbs hurt, then they picked up hammers to smash their own thumbs with, so they can be right in saying their thumbs are injured.

Like I said: A self-fulfilling prophesy.
I've been putting out fire with gasoline! ^_^
