RWT permanent ban should not be unbanned or reduced to temporarily ban when Jagex have the evidence RWT actually happened. RWT obviously has real world issues, and in many cases extremely serious real world legal consequences. Jagex is just not wise to jeopardize their hard earned 22 years glories.
I wouldn't have thought Jagex was unbanning accounts which were involved in RWT

But you wrote on OP that you have heard about it from a friend for 15+ years right?

"I haven't played RS in a couple of years, but a friend texted me the other day saying that his friend (and others) have recently had RWT bans removed by posting through Reddit."

Yes, sorry I can see the misunderstanding. My assumption would be that the account was incorrectly banned for RWT, and then unbanned through an appeal on Reddit.

I don't think Jagex would unban an account if the account was correctly banned for RWT

They shouldn't, because Jagex took thorough investigations over a very long time to permanently ban RWT accounts. It will be incredibly funny when after 22 years in services with such RWT banning policies working great or RSC/RS2/RS3 and other Jagex games, and now in 2023 suddenly they found it a problem just in OSRS and they have to bend the rules just for OSRS.

They also can't facilitate such services on Reddit as it involves communication of private information, and I doubt such services don't violate Reddit policies.

I don't think that's right, because all Jagex needs is a username (I think)

It is not right at all. Why don't we just need the username to appeal an appealable ban?

Even an username is the private information of a player, and when even in RSOF, Jagex's own domain, we can't appeal a ban from because it is not meant for private communication between Jagex and the players, have the Jagex legal team asked Reddit whether they would violate their EULA and T&S with Reddit?

Appeal an offence ... <- (link) to '

Unappealable offences

If the ban or mute is unappealable we have deemed the offence so severe that an appeal will not be permitted.

Unappealable offences include:

- Account hijacking
- Bug abuse
-
Real-world trading

- Other manual permanent bans (fraud, community safety)

These offences are always investigated thoroughly before being applied and will not be discussed further .

It is highly unlikely that your story is true but you always may try ...
I have no reason to doubt the friend, but I don't know the people who got unbanned.
Lumping around with a lot of hearsay never offers you a base of well founded evidence.

Every 'account-issue' is an unique issue as there aren't 2 the same circumstances that can be detected as 2 identical cases.
There's a lot of ifs/whats/buts involved knitting stories together as 1, hoping Jagex/JMods will fall for it making it wave-away giving said player a free card to continue what they have been doing all the time.

If a player is soo extremely close that there isn't an inch left, that makes a difference between RWT or not, that player has purposely been pushing/stretching the boundaries of the '
Rules of RuneScape
' and '
Terms & Conditions
' which they shouldn't been doing at all.
