and again-

I am downloading this on two machines.

Macintosh opens the client like it should.
Pc starts up a whole eula thing... for launcher.

I would just like to say:
The ceremony of logging in. pressing that button, and seeing runescape launch and your game pop up and your toon appear is one of the most relaxing things.

Without entering a username and password every time it simply wouldn't be the same.

I can not think of even one single reason the username/password thing isn't working,
Jagex has not been in touch with "the community" for a long time and this might be the last thing.

The MAC launches the client

(which is exclusively preferrable)

The PC launches the LAUNCHER SETUP

how can I trust this thing
macOS is designed to run exclusively on Apple hardware, such as Mac computers. Windows offers more customization options, allowing users to personalize their desktop, settings, and appearance. macOS has a more standardized interface and limited customization options compared to Windows.

This, in a nutshell, is what makes two different machines giving you 2 different results.

Where macOS offers more 'protection/stability/trustworthyness' ... windows offers 'too much 3rd party interference' for Jagex's products therefore giving you a different result.

I think "The Returned" accounts are by far the single biggest mistake you guys made.

I don't trust it and I don't think I will be migrating anything.

Ever.
"
The Returned
"-accounts ...
https://runescape.wiki/w/The_Returned
... at the '
RuneScape Wiki
' was not something Jagex/JMods did created for fun, it was a complicated matter that was bound to happen, after Jagex/JMods had to make many future changes in software/hardware.
If Jagex/JMods wouldn't have accomplished that, my account(s) would have been lost forever to these software/hardware glitch.

the first url says "launcher"

once the "game direct download" is clicked it changes to /download?force_test=control

AND THE two different machines do two different things!!!

The 'Game Direct Download' link at the bottom of the download page will bring you to a download page that will give you the RuneScape Game client. It installs as "RuneScape Launcher" but it is the default client. The Jagex Launcher is a separate product.

You mentioned that you don't trust the Jagex Launcher - do note that as Jagex Accounts will eventually become required to play the game, eventually all players will be required to download the Jagex Launcher and use it to launch the game. If you haven't migrated to a Jagex Account you are not required to use the Jagex Launcher for now, but at some unspecified point in the future that may change.

But how will that work for the runelite fanbois then??
OSRS - Filled with harassers sad...~

'
Jagex Launcher FAQ
' at '
Jagex's Support Centre
' for more information about Jagex Launcher ...

Follow that page downwards to where it says ...

What if I don't want to use the Jagex Launcher?

Currently, the Launcher is optional if you do not have a Jagex account. Eventually, the RuneScape and Old School RuneScape standalone clients will no longer be supported. If you don't want to use the Launcher just yet, you can follow these links to install the standalone
RuneScape
or
Old School
clients.

These two links lead to standalone clients that do not need Jagex Launcher. If you decide to use/install Jagex Launcher, Jagex Launcher will find these clients (on your computer) and use them to login in to RuneScape/OldSchool RuneScape through Jagex Launcher.
