Will I get banned if I start using a VPN? I like to play another game while I AFK on Runescape but I'd like to use a VPN but I don't want to get banned because my IP address change, does anyone have any info regarding this?
Seeing as I typically have my VPN always active you should be fine. I use mine for work but don't disable it before logging in.
Just remember if you're doing anything account related that you need to try and contact Jagex for you can't use a VPN.

But I haven't used a VPN on my accounts before so the sudden change in IP address wouldn't cause confusion? I don't want to be accused of account sharing because I used a VPN or something and I'm not really sure what you mean about doing anything account related that you need to try and contact Jagex for
Like if you need to recover your account. Don't try doing so while using a VPN as part of the process is being in your home state / country.
I go by the rule of thumb when I log in at least for me is if the time change can be reasonably accomplished for logins I'm fine and if I need to explain myself I can. Like I'm in the United States. I'm sure my VPN is also situated here I've never bothered to change it.
But if I were to suddenly say pop up in Milan, and I last logged in 5 minutes ago in Texas. Followed by my next login in an hour puts me in Shanghai, my logins may look dodgy.
Also remember gaming styles are like fingerprints. People don't play exactly the same way inside the same household.
In the end though it doens't matter what we as players think. Jagex has the first and final word and they keep they're cards rather close to the vest.

Okay hopefully I can get a mod to verify, sometimes I use the USA sometimes I use China it depends on how laggy the VPN is but for now I'll stick to staying off VPNs, thank you my G

If you are using an autheticator, and/or the new Jagex launcher, then this will allow you to prove your identify regardless of your IP address.
So there should be no issues whatsoever using a VPN if you use the authentication system.
I am using the Jagex Launcher but it only authenticates when I login to the launcher if I'm already logged into the launcher it won't ask me to verify each account, should I log out of my Jagex account and log back in after I've activated the VPN so that I can authenticate myself?

I would. Better safe than sorry.

just don't quite cut it in a modern society. (it's an inside joke).

There are two
potential
issues with using VPNs to play RuneScape:
1) You may be flagged for rule-breaking
IF
you utilize a VPN that's known to be used by rule-breakers. This means that it's highly recommended to do some research on VPNs to ensure that you don't get mislabeled as a rule-breaker. Usually, the free VPNs are the ones that cause an issue, but always make sure before you continue.
2) Your digital record with Jagex may be non-existent. This means that if you EVER have to recover your account -- for whatever reason(s) -- it may be impossible to do so as VPNs do not allow Jagex to create nor maintain a digital record of your account. With that being said, ensure that your account is completely secured -- See
Security tips
-- to avoid the possibility of ever having to try to recover your account.
