Hi all, just making a request for jagex to bring back RuneScape classic, it's my childhood. Surely the upkeep cost next to nothing. I see there are a few private servers but I really don't want to be forced to play one of them. I can only see benefits from bringing it back. I'm sure a lot of people would be interested in checking it out. One of the private servers as a decent amount of players so there is obviously interest. Don't be ashamed of your history! I hope this message reaches the right person. Thank you. Bring back RuneScape classic

Seeing as it wasn't being supported there were far too many game breaking bugs in it to keep it running. Nevermind there is nobody left at Jagex that is fluent in the code needed to operate it on a continual basis, just for those feeling nostalgic.

Probably would just require a single programmer to maintain the code, which would be good enough to pay their salary. I wouldn't be surprised that a lot of people would return, just to play RSC.
Never drop a valuable item.

It's not going to happen.

Jagex explained why RSC was retired at the time, in this newspost .

Note the key reasons:
- Jagex's community safety and macro detection tools are no longer RSC-compatible
- Increasing numbers of bugs, meaning the game was breaking anyway

Neither of those issues are trivial to fix, and it's just not worth Jagex's while to do so.

Sad but true.

Thought they didn't explicitly say it, I suspect there was one more thing involved too, since development on it had started around that time...

The Jagex Launcher and Jagex Accounts.

The work to update the login systems for Jagex's older products (RSC and Funorb) likely would have been a massive undertaking and as such, Jagex's flagship products (RS and OSRS) were upgraded, and the others were not.
