Top of the mourning to you all,

I just wanted to get everyone's opinion here on why you think Jagex has not attempted to allow some official Jagex player-owned Runescape or Old School Runescape servers yet? I don't know if this would cause more players to play Runescape and Old School Runescape, but I would love to see Jagex crush their other MMORPG competitors to the ground. :)

* Because they don't want their proprietary software to become open source.

* Because private servers are inherently insecure, and people who get their computers compromised by playing them inevitably blame Jagex.

I remember OSRS put up the private server idea on a game mode survey a while ago. They returned and talked about their initial comments on these game modes, but have never talked about them again.

Once upon a time, like 15 years ago, Jagex had toyed with the idea of renting out private servers. They didn't intend to operate them, probably to reduce legal risks, but asked the players if they were interested to pay a rental fee. That initiative ended with not sufficient demand, with Jagex seeking an alternative way to operate - the Gowers sold the company to equity funds eventually,

I see private servers will only materialize when OSRS is in extreme desperation, and they won't come free of charge, and don't expect to get them for buying the regular membership.

As for RS3, it won't happen as Jagex already has great plans in ultilizing the game's proven technologies and 20 years of IP, for the next 20 more years. In the land of Jagex where RS3 shines. One Game to rule them all, One Game to find more. RS3 is the One Game.

Anyway, private servers won't get more players to play either game. They will just be diluting remaining players from Jagex's own OSRS servers. It is just robbing Jagex themselves to pay the OSRS private servers and you better believe this is an extremely desperate measure when Jagex is trying to salvage something from OSRS instead of just shutting it down.

I couldn't have said it any better than this.

Former Jmod Mat K once revealed the possible plan of OSRS on private servers:

"Imagine, having your own OSRS world where you can make your own content and then charge users entry to it treating bonds as its own cryptocurrency. On top of that you could use bonds to include NFTs (unique items) which drive interest and long term value."

Yes, they were talking about the dreadful (to some OSRS players) Crypto and NFT schemes, and of course, bond MTX too. ;)

Even if OSRS has to go this route for more monetization, my feeling is why don't they just put such schemes on existing OSRS? Practically they don't have to segregate regular OSRS from OSRS MTXPS.

As for RS3, there is no need for NFT. and such MTXPS initiative when they are doing very well with monetization the recent years.

This is interesting. I hope this never happens as it would tarnish game integrity.

Yes, OSRS private servers will always be bad, but nonetheless it was some plan mentioned in last year's OSRS Annual Survey among other community dividing game modes.

However, it makes sense for an old game to plan for rainy days. At least it is a contingency plan when there is no other viable option left in their future. Last year, OSRS probably was just kicking the tires, we don't know how much time they still have before they will have to take action, especially we haven't heard a word from the OSRS team regarding its future plan of the game as a whole and not just on a per project/game mode basis.

Theres alot of reasons. First and foremost lets just get this out of the way, RS private servers are all dogshit, they barely work, the community if filled with hackers, scammers, and buttholes (probably all banned from real RS.) And theres usually only 2 thins to really do, PVP, Bossing.

That being said.

People make money of Jagex product.
People scam your info again jagex product all over it.
Takes players away from the real game.
Other reasons im not going to discuss too in depth here. Illegal activity's could happen, not so much on RS as this is mainly an adult community.

Mutahar made a good video on this club penguin private server and as i dont want to get banned or this comment removed ill just say check out this video to see why you should avoid private servers.

(Yes its long but the point is made clear within the first 5-10 minutes about why private servers are a bad idea.)
OSRS - Filled with harassers sad...~
- Give me Private Hiscores this should not be public information! Goodbye Forumers its been fun.
