Why? Only about 20 people ever played DeviousMUD (according to Andrew). It was very primitive by today's standards.

This would be a total waste of Jagex's time, not to mention that the IP probably doesn't belong to the company anyway.

When we see private servers, they will be heavily tied to MTX and RWT, and they will only come under doomsday scenarios. Even the reference I quoted from Mat K regarding what private servers came under similar scenarios. Mat K actually called it a
"plan to save OSRS"
in his OSRS Podcasts video last month.

First, we don't know if OSRS is already in its terminal state and needs some new plans to save it, and then we will need to know what other plan(s) do Jagex have to save OSRS.

Everything is very fluid when we have no insider information regarding OSRS, and at this state I will just take everything as a grain of salt, and won't take anything seriously. After all, I believe in Charles Darwin more than anybody else. :)

I would prefer a pure lore server where no grinding is needed, we can just slowly go through all quests at our own pace for fun.

That is the whole reason I play games at all. PVP aspects are worthless to me. PVE can be fun sometimes, but lore is what gets things for me. So, instead of a private server, they can run a full lore server.

Another issue Jagex may need to consider when and if they have to put up private servers is whether they have the technical means to facilitate such services, especially by the time they have to do it, they can no longer cope with Java technologies.

When they are having problems every day with puzzling issues like we need to reenter bank pin everytime we hop world and chat messages crashing the game now, imagine how pandemoniac it will be when these issues are amplified many times with their obligations in heterogenic private servers.
