RSB always was full of sycophants. It's good that it died. :)

Die.

It's this emotional attachment to a gaming forum, after enough years to reasonably assume yourself a full grown adult; that inevitably amuses me. The toxicity of the RSB community is phenominal, and the ego stroking is borderline laughable.

A collection of teenagers/adults clicking a physical mouse frantically to influence a virtual character. Years later, said memories still haunt these people, as they return interspersedly to speak tales of the 'good ol' days' as though they were veterans of some fantastic adventure.

I'm pretty sure the dopamine release you'd get from a genuine physical adventure, would outstrip the experiences of some virtual click-fest.

Point being; the nuance that underpinned this community was inflated self-worth spawned from being able to click multiple objects in succession pretty quickly. The toxicity that then came from said nuance is what ultimately led to the downfall of this community.

And I find it heart warming. :)

RSB was always dead, whatchu talking about??? That was literally the most common refrain, in any given year lol.

Monogamy, your name strikes me as familiar for some reason. I'm sorry you feel that way, and I do agree that some people have trouble moving on with their lives, but who are we to judge, really? If clans still want to go on warring on RS3 and OS, so what? What about that makes them lesser?

I won't pretend to know your experience with the RSB, but I can tell you why I come back to post every now and then and catch up with old people. If you think about it, such a clan community is really unique to RS. Other MMOs heavily promote a guild system, or a combat system (think LoL, I guess not technically an MMO), or both. Jagex did none of that for years, and attempts afterwards were still pretty half-assed.

So it was an entirely player run community. That, in and of itself, is pretty cool. People wrote for "newspapers", trained or got gear for their clans, hosted events, updated ladders, organized alliance wars etc. because they wanted to. No one, at any point, got paid for the work they did (unless they sold GP lul). You have to admit that is pretty incredible, because for many years, even before me, the RSB was a large, vibrant, and active community. The largest, besides the pking community.

Then there's the more interpersonal aspect. Many people were involved in the RSB during their teen years which always gets a fair amount of reminiscence. Some still aren't ready to let go or still enjoy it for what it is in 2017. If it's not impeding their real lives, again, who cares? Many people also made friends in the RSB community. I've personally met a few irl, and keep in touch with more even now, and I left the RSB in 2012. Yes, flame was a part of it, but few people took it personally. I went at Jaro's throat for ages, now we talk when I log in. It was all role-play.

I hope you can see where people are coming from. If not, oh well. Love y'all!

Hmmm...

I've hung around this community for years, doesn't mean I still cling to it and make it my entire life's work lol.

It's why I pop in from time to time and see who all has been around.

I was around in the very olden days when the forums first came out. I was also around when the forums flourished with tons and tons of clans....it was not unusual for a clan to fill an entire thread in a day with conversations just to keep their threads bumped.

Kinda saddening when you look back upon what the rsb used to be, compared to what it is now.

However, life goes on, even if the forums flat-lined =p
