RSB was always dead, whatchu talking about??? That was literally the most common refrain, in any given year lol.
Monogamy, your name strikes me as familiar for some reason. I'm sorry you feel that way, and I do agree that some people have trouble moving on with their lives, but who are we to judge, really? If clans still want to go on warring on RS3 and OS, so what? What about that makes them lesser?
I won't pretend to know your experience with the RSB, but I can tell you why I come back to post every now and then and catch up with old people. If you think about it, such a clan community is really unique to RS. Other MMOs heavily promote a guild system, or a combat system (think LoL, I guess not technically an MMO), or both. Jagex did none of that for years, and attempts afterwards were still pretty half-assed.
So it was an entirely player run community. That, in and of itself, is pretty cool. People wrote for "newspapers", trained or got gear for their clans, hosted events, updated ladders, organized alliance wars etc. because they wanted to. No one, at any point, got paid for the work they did (unless they sold GP lul). You have to admit that is pretty incredible, because for many years, even before me, the RSB was a large, vibrant, and active community. The largest, besides the pking community.
Then there's the more interpersonal aspect. Many people were involved in the RSB during their teen years which always gets a fair amount of reminiscence. Some still aren't ready to let go or still enjoy it for what it is in 2017. If it's not impeding their real lives, again, who cares? Many people also made friends in the RSB community. I've personally met a few irl, and keep in touch with more even now, and I left the RSB in 2012. Yes, flame was a part of it, but few people took it personally. I went at Jaro's throat for ages, now we talk when I log in. It was all role-play.
I hope you can see where people are coming from. If not, oh well. Love y'all!
