Hi all, hope there are some Menaphos quest experts around here. I searched for "phite" in the forums and got zero results - has really nobody ever asked here before? In combat I'm an absolute noob, the only bosses I can fight easily are archglacor and normal barrows. KBD or kalphite queen I can kill, but it's not worth it, takes ages and no decent drops, and I've beaten Zilly in GWD 5 times while using up a whole inventory of sharks each time, and again no decent drops. So really I'm awful at fighting, and now I need help to set up my revolution bar and select my gear .
I did the "phite club" quest up to the final boss, the pharaoh. He has 150k lifepoints and several special attacks.
Already checked the wiki and some youtube guides; I understood the mechanics such that when he shouts something, I click freedom, and when green fire spawns where I stand, I step aside and click a feather of maat. Did I miss anything there?
My main problem is that I hardly deal damage while each of his hits requires me to eat a piece of food, and I don't have any other healing besides food. I can only take 25 items of food because I take 2 prayer potions and 1 stack of feathers of maat, so I can only survive 25-30 of his hits.
Regarding stats/gear:
my melee attack is 92 and I have elder rune gear. But the pharaoh is a mage so melee is probably bad.
For ranged , I'm just level 81 and my best gear is royal d'hide with mercenary gloves and a crystal bow that doesn't need ammo.
As mage (also level 81), I could wear the golden robes of subjugation I won from an event, and I recently got an abyssal wand (tier 75) and have a crystal orb (tier 80). Alternatively, I could wear hybrid armour, but the only one where I have a full set is Saradomin warpriest. I tried to wear it once for the fight, but still got the pharaoh only down to about 90k lifepoints before my ring of life teleported me out.

Suggestions please?

Hello there,

Because your highest stats n armor are melee you should use melee. Elder rune is very good.
I killed the Pharaoh with subjugation and an arcane spirit shield.
Bring a pack yak or tortoise with food inside
I recommed using a defender if you have
Sing of life
Rocktail or sailfish heal high but
Blue blubber jellyfish won't drain your adrenaline
Keybind eat-food and learn to use it
Wep poison, pots, super restores
Abilities: strongest to weakest (fury and slice are the worst), revolution mode, autocast basic abilities only, activate thresholds manually.
Don't forget about defensive abilities

Thank you, I'll go for dual wield melee then. (Currently mining animica to repair my gear.)

My summoning level is far below what's needed for a pack yak, but I'll go kill some tortoises and hope to receive a shell and then make a pouch.

The highest food I can cook is great white shark (or cavefish when I drink a cooking potion), so no blue blubber jellyfish, rocktail or sailfish. So I probably need to take food that does reduce my adrenaline.

A few questions still (as I said, I'm a combat noob):

I have a rune defender; that's tier 50 - does that mean I can only use defensive abilities and dual-wield abilities of tier 50 and lower?

According to its description, the sign of life effect only kicks in when I have already died - doesn't that mean I lose all my items and need to reclaim them from Death each time? My divination is only just high enough to make it, so I've never used this before, only a ring of life. And I think the sign of life must be an inventory item, not a worn item, so it blocks one inventory slot, right?

For keybinds - my revolution bar does have keyboard shortcuts, but my upper action bar (where I put my prayers, the eat food ability, my emergency teleport to war's retreat and freedom to trigger it manually) does not have any keyboard shortcuts. How can I remove them from the revolution bar (where I don't need them because I won't trigger anything manually there) and put them in the upper action bar instead?

Weapon poison I can use, that's one more inventory slot, I think I even have weapon poison + from Mos Le Harmless monsters (or I can get some easily). Restore potions? Does any of the pharaoh's attacks cause a stat drain? Because I haven't noticed...

Also I forgot to ask about prayers. I was trying with curses but got the error message that deflect magic cannot reflect anything back to the pharaoh. I also tried using leech defence but didn't see any effect (besides my prayer points draining faster). Are normal prayers better?

I did some math in the meantime; checked all the abilities I have, ruled out all that are threshold/ultimate or require a 2h weapon or an amulet that I don't have or that don't work in revolution or that cannot be used during combat. I also ruled out incite and provoke because I don't see the point in making the pharaoh aggressive as he is anyway. Also an elder rune longsword and a rune defender don't have special attacks, so that's out as well.

What remains were 16 abilities, and my revolution bar has 13 slots, so I had to rule out 3 further. I don't even know if the pharaoh has adrenaline, so probably siphon is useless. Also he doesn't move anyway, so I wouldn't need to bind him, and he never binds me (only stuns me), so I don't need barge. And as resonance is a threshold ability which will not be on my revolution bar, I also will not need preparation (to reduce the cooldown for resonance) on the revolution bar.

The remaining 13 abilities I ranked according to your suggestion, strongest first, weakest last (based on the average ability damage percentage).
I ended up with:
fury: 147% (but spread over 3 hits, so just 49% per hit)
dismember: 142.5% (spread over 5 hits, but as bleed type damage which probably ignores armour)
sever and decimate: each 112.5%
havoc: 94%
slice: 75%
backhand, kick, bash and sacrifice: 60%
punish: 56%
anticipate and freedom: no damage

Anticipate is very important (grants me stun immunity) and has a long cooldown, so I'll put this first. Freedom directly behind it makes no sense because if anticipate works, there won't be any stun I'd need to break free from, so I put that later.

The only abilities with which I can stun the pharaoh are backhand and kick; punish and slice will do extra damage when the target is stunned first. So I would put punish directly after backhand and slice directly after kick.

what do you think of:

anticipate-dismember-sever-decimate-havoc-freedom-kick-slice-sacrifice-bash-backhand-punish-fury

Yeah, elder rune off hand is better than rune defender. I prefer DW because I can switch to shield when I need for example Barricade
Optimal pvm bar is
DW: Decimate, dismember, sever, havoc, (sacrifice), slice, fury.
2H: cleave, dismember, sever, smash, (sacrifice), slice, fury. Fill the rest of your action bar with thresholds and ultimates.
secondary action bar: defensive abilities, constitution abilities and eat food.
Super restore and prayer pot both restore prayer
Sign of life must be worn in pocket slot and it will revive you but only once (no death)

Anticipation or freedom as an automatic ability is usually not a good idea because they have to be ready to use when the stun happens.
You can select at settings how many abilities to cast automatically. They are gonna be highlighted in yellow in the primary action bar

The Pharaoh is immune to deflected magic. Normal prayers are better if you dont have turmoil or malevolence

thanks again for taking the time!

I made 3 war tortoise pouches in the meantime and 6 signs of life, and I'll switch to normal prayers for my next attempt.

Without the defender, for dual wield I could also go with enhanced excalibur as offhand because it offers a defence boost and some healing once every 5 minutes.

When I understood your explanation correctly, the issue with sign of life is, when it is consumed at a time where I have almost beaten the pharaoh, it will work, I will survive the fight and actually beat him. But when it is consumed earlier (which is very likely), he will soon kill me again (because I respawn with only 25% of my lifepoints which is about as much as the damage from two of his auto attacks, and can only eat one food every few seconds) and then I will be really dead and lose all items. Apparently it's not possible to immediately put another sign of life from inventory into the pocket slot when one was just used.

Regarding the choice of melee, the wiki says that in his second, mask-less form (should I ever get the pharaoh as far down to see it) the pharaoh will often be surrounded by a wall of fire and unreachable for melee fighters. Can you counter that in some way?

And does the pharaoh in the second form still use the stun and green fire attacks, or do these stop then such that I could concentrate on healing instead of running and clicking freedom?

My herb level only just reached high enough to make Saradomin brew, would that be better than food? It would have to be combined with the same amount of super restores of course, and I don't know if the defence boost would stack with enhanced excalibur (probably not).

actually, I also have a holy wrench which would increase the prayer restore from potions (but I think it has to be in the pocket slot and not just inventory to work, so no space for the sign of life)

Finally I did it, thank you so much for all your tips!

I thought I need to learn the boss better to beat him, so I thought I go without the precious, hard to make familiar and without the signs of life where I don't feel comfortable with (zero experience) and just try out different settings to see how far I can get the pharaoh down.

I went with normal prayers and dual-wield melee . My revolution bar was decimate-dismember-sever-assault-havoc-sacrifice-destroy-kick-slice-fury; my manual ability bar (without shortcuts because I don't know how to put them; therefore just clicking) had freedom, anticipate, protect magic prayer, piety prayer and some abilities - of which I actually only used devotion.

The first attempt went wrong, the ring of life saved me, and I went in again with a new ring.

And the second attempt worked great. So I thought I'd share what I did.

I did a lot of training in the last few days, so my stats when I actually went in were:
prayer 83, constitution 93, attack 95, strength 88, defence 92

Worn equipment: ring of life, holy wrench (pocket), amulet of the forsaken (accidentally got one from the barrows), mining cape (the best cape I have, only recently got level 99 mining), elder rune +5 armour (helmet, top, bottom, gloves and shoes), elder rune +5 longsword, offhand enhanced excalibur.

Then I tried to get an initial stat boost . First, I used the bonfire in War's Retreat (mine is at yew level). Then I went to Ooglog and used Bandos, sulphur, salt and thermal bath all in a row. Then I drank 1 dose each of super attack, super defence and super strength and put the half-empty vials back into the bank to take full ones instead. I also took a prayer flask (but only used 4 doses, so a vial would have been sufficient), a stack of feathers of maat and weapon poison +. 6 inventory slots were full, so I had 22 left for food, and I brought cavefish (caught at the deep sea swarm, cooked after drinking a cooking potion).

and here's how the fight went:

In the beginning, I applied weapon poison and switched on only the protect from magic prayer. I stepped aside and clicked a feather and ate one cavefish when the pharaoh produced green corruption fire, and otherwise kept hitting him using revolution without manually clicking anything else.

I didn't do much damage, he was still at 142k lifepoints, so I also switched on the piety prayer. Now I could deal more damage. Next time I needed healing, I activated excalibur instead of eating food. That also gave me a serious defence boost.

Whenever he shouted something with usurpers or kneel, I clicked freedom (sometimes I wasn't very fast to counteract his stun, so I had to eat a cavefish immediately).

Then I manually clicked the devotion ability and the pharaoh suddenly did far less damage to me. Devotion is really a life saver in this fight!

I also occasionally clicked anticipate at random times, just to be on the safe side, and also took a sip of prayer potion, attack potion and strength potion (defence I didn't need because of excalibur's lasting boost).

It went on like that for maybe 2 or 3 minutes, and then the pharaoh was down to 75k lifepoints and dropped his mask.

I immediately clicked anticipate because I wasn't sure what would be coming next.

After that, it went pretty fast. He did use his green corruption fire once only, the rest of the time only kept auto-attacking. I also never saw him surrounded by fire (which would have prevented melee fighting because I couldn't have reached him) as was suggested by the wiki.

In the end he yielded, talked a bit and was killed by his successor on the throne.
