Exp popup wrong or what?

So im doing slayer and noticed that the xp popup is off

it says i get 995xp gained per kill
but when i look at remaining xp it only counted -341xp (170 bonus)

This is kinda misleading does some one know if this is a bug or what is happening?

Sorry for the silly question, but for the xp pop up, is it counting total xp gained across all skills, right? and not just slayer xp, but all xp gained when you kill a creature?

I thought that's how the number worked there.
that would be my assumption for as to what's happening. I may be wrong though.
