After speaking to the mage in the Wilderness, you need to find him again in the Zamorak Chaos Temple, in south-east Varrock to be given the orb.

It says mini quests do not record additional information in your quest journal
Talk to the Mage of Zamorak at the end of the river lum in wilderness
You have started the quest. When I talk to mage in wilderness he tells me meet him at varock when I go to chaos temple he should give me this orb but he doesn’t.
I tried all possible ways to talk to him and still nothing .
Any ideas how I can get this orb ? Geez it’s like 10 min quest and I’m so stuck
Still looking for solution

When you speak to him in Varrock is there an option about where he gets his runes from?

If not that is your problem. Are you wearing anything related to any other god. Back when this quest was original written there were only Saradomin, Guthix & Zamorak items. Now we have a few more god items. Anyone of them could be mucking up the dialogue.

I'm having a similar problem. I have apparently started the miniquest long ago, and can't continue. The mage isn't found in the Wildy or in the Chaos Temple. I don't have a scrying orb in my inventory. I'm at a loss for how to continue.
