Nintendo trivia:
Super Mario Kart is the only game in the series with 5 races in each cup instead of 4. It is also the only game where the races did not have 3 laps, except for Mario Kart: Double Dash!!'s Baby Park and its remake in Mario Kart DS, with 7 and 5, respectively, and Mario Kart: Double Dash!!'s Wario Stadium, only having 2 laps.

The reason Koopa Troopa wasn't a playable character in Mario Kart 64 was because his go-kart was stolen by Wario. This is why Wario is a playable character instead.
