In my Research of about 15 minutes …lol There were a few methods of how Divination was used it the past that stood out.
~~Divination to cast curses’ and love spells, healing and rejuvenation.
~~Divination to transform into animals, and other creatures
~~Divination to project ones thoughts into the world.
There was a form of Divination during the Middle Age done using Runic Stones; Engraved with magical spells to see the future, to heal the sick etc…
Another practice in the middle ages, was where they would determine a persons’ inner self, by their outer appearance.
*For instance: If you look like a bird your spirit self was a bird. Or they could read the wrinkles on the face in a similar way to hand reading to determine personality traits.
In other Cultures what comes to mind is Native Americans going on Rights of Passage lone Journeys to commune with the spirit gods for a type of transformation.
Some other Forms of Divination: Tarot Cards, or Casting of the Bones, and then reading where/how the bones land, as well as Reading Tea Leaves.
