Fact of the day! Tardigrades, or waterbears, are tiny eight-legged animals that can withstand some extremely harsh environmental conditions. Specimens have even survived a 10 day stint in low Earth orbit, exposed to the hard vacuum and ionising radiation of space.

Fact of the day! Noctilucent clouds are formed from ice crystals at an altitude of about 80km, which makes them the highest clouds in the atmosphere. Normally too faint to be seen, the height at which they occur allows them to be illuminated by sunlight even after the sun has set. This means that they are most visible during twilight, when the lower layers of the atmosphere are in the Earth's shadow.
