Explaining the citadel to new members (those new to clans) can often be a daunting and repetitive task, and sometimes you may find yourself struggling to explain well for them to understand without making them feel completely lost, especially the commonly asked questions about orts, the avatar, and capping.

As such, I've written a clear, simple, straightforward (without going into the overwhelming and confusing details) and basic citadel beginner's guide which they can refer to on the clan's forums, and aims at getting them started right away, addressing and answering the most frequently asked questions.

I thought I'd share this to help other leaders, so feel free to use it. :)

The only bits you need to edit are the resource cap amount (1700, in our case) and the time of the build tick (Monday morning, in our case).

Beginner's Guide (FAQ) :

Introduction :

Every clan has its own citadel, which can be upgraded from tier 1 (T1) to tier 7 (T7) using resources members gather that contribute towards the citadel's upkeep (its weekly maintenance) and upgrade. It contains several parts; mainly the skill plots, the keep (main building), and a battlefield which can be accessed for Clan Wars.

It is a place for clan members to skill at by gathering resources, with different types of skill plots unlocked at different tiers. These skill plots are: Woodcutting (T1), Mining (T2/T4), Firemaking (T3), Smithing (T3/T4), Crafting (T5), Summoning (T5) and Cooking (T6). Clan Wars may also be initiated from the Battlefield, if the clan wishes to participate in them.

Accessing the citadel :

Go to the Clan Camp near Falador (directly south-west of the southern Falador entrance) and enter the portal (using the first option) to access the citadel. You can grab a vexillum from the Scribe (right-click, Get vexillum from) at the Clan Camp, which will take you directly to the Clan Camp in the future by right-clicking on it and choosing Teleport. You can also grab a clan cloak from the Captain of the Guard (right-click, Get cloak from) at the Clan Camp.

Moving around the citadel :

To avoid walking around, you can open your citadel map and teleport around the citadel to different areas within the citadel such as the skill plots and the keep.

Capping :

Every week you can collect up to a total of 1700 resources from the skill plots, known as the Resource Cap, which initially shows as 0/1700 on your Minigames tab (red star icon).

You can toggle between the different skill plots and view the resource targets (Clan Total) that must be met for each skill plot before the next build tick arrives (for upkeep and upgrades), and how much you've gathered from each skill plot (Player Total).

After a while during capping, you can claim bonus xp in any skill that the citadel has a skill plot for. This is done by talking to the Quartermaster (or right-click, Claim XP) in the citadel, who can be found by entering the keep through its entrance and going to the left.

Once you've reached your resource cap (1700/1700), you can no longer gather resources at the citadel until the next build tick.

The build tick arrives every Monday morning, game time.

Capping contributes towards your citadel's upkeep and upgrade by helping the clan reach its resource targets for the week in time for the build tick, and provides easy, free and fast xp.

Clan avatar :

A familiar, known as the 'ava', with a habitat in the citadel; it can only be summoned by an Avatar Warden (Admin+).

When summoned with the Skilling Bonus buff, it provides clan members with 3% more xp on any skill while on the same world as the avatar, or 6% more xp on any skill if they are close to it (22x22 square area centred on the avatar).

When summoned with the Skill Plot Bonus buff at the citadel, it allows clan members to cap 10% faster.

To receive these boosts, you must have buffs activated by paying 300 anagogic orts once a week.

Anagogic orts :

Once you are a member of a clan, anagogic orts will drop while you are skilling (at the citadel or on the surface). You can only gather up to 200 orts per day.

You need to pay 300 orts, either at the Quartermaster (right-click, Deposit orts) or by giving them to the clan avatar itself (right-click, Buffs), to activate avatar buffs for a week.

Banking :

You can bank at the head guard in the citadel, who can be found by entering the keep through its entrance and going to the right.

Exiting the citadel :

Head back to the portal (by teleporting to it through the citadel map, to avoid walking) and exit through it, or simply hop worlds, in order to return to the surface.

- There is also a bank at Citadel Battlefield.
- U can also teleport to clan camp with the clan flag south of Burthope Bank
- Also add the 10% restriction on Summoning resources
- Maybe also say how u activated boost from avatar (Righclick ava buff or at Quartermaster)
- Missing explanation about Clan cloak/Fealty reward + Bonus XP Reward from Quartermaster
- In the guide we use, we have added that killing chaos druis is one of the fasests way to obtain orts, for those who joined recently

Hey,

Thanks for the input.

As stated, this guide's purpose is not to be in-depth or comprehensive. It's basically only for your first time at the citadel and in order to understand the simplest basics, as seen in its brevity.

Bonus XP from the Quartermaster has been stated in the first paragraph of the second post, though, as it is something they encounter while capping for the first time, and the two ways for activating the ava buffs have also been stated. I've not explained the Fealty program (something they encounter after 3 weeks of capping) and other clan portals (like the one in Prifddinas, although high levels are more likely to know about the citadel) etc, in an intentional attempt to avoid confusing and overwhelming them with all of the details at once.

An advanced and comprehensive guide could be written, but it would be thousands of words long and something beginners would be extremely unlikely to bother with (otherwise they would read the RS Wikia) when they just need the most direct answers and basic information.

You start out with the main, minimum and most basic things they need to know to simply get on in the citadel at least (i.e. walking them through their first baby steps), and then further information and details come after and can be easily explained and understood in the chat. :)
