Spring is right around the corner! So I share a special moment in time I experienced in Alaska with you!

I walked the path through the woods with my friend, as we were apt to do.
The vibrancy of spring surrounded us. The sky was a brilliant blue with not a cloud to be seen. The mountains were vibrant and alive in their adolescence. The air was filled with that indefinable smell of spring, newness, expectancy…

We came to the high mountain lake. The water was ice cold from glacier run off and projected a perfect mirror image of the mountains surrounding it. Water lilies grew around the edge, their brilliant yellow flowers in full bloom above each individual’s floating green oasis.

As we circled the lake, we came to a cove bathed in the spring light. There standing before us was the object of this piece. He weighed every bit of 1200 pounds and was in full rut. His antlers must have spanned 8 feet and were covered in velvet. He raised his head from his search for food and the clear, cold water ran down from his muzzle. His eyes met mine with unperturbed dignity. He waited with the watchfulness of all wild creatures completely in tune with their environment. I felt humbled.

My friend said, “Oh, it is just a moose. Be careful this time of year. They are temperamental, you know.”

I almost didn’t hear him, so spell bound was I. Primal sexual energy, pride, dignity, power and strength radiated from this creature so I could scarce breath and was held frozen by the beauty of Him. I felt His energies touch me inside and felt the ageless wonder of spring and procreation. In that moment, I lived eons. This one moment was now forever a part of me, to be recalled and remembered, never forgotten.
