Last night while I was fishing I began a convo with another player there. He said he returned to rs 4 days earlier after an absence of four or five years. He talked about all the changes, so much to learn, etc. I was not trying to recruit him, but after a while he said that he had just joined a clan and the clan gave him 500 dragon bones and 3m gps when he joined. I asked him if they paid him to join, and he said no, that it was just a gift to help him out as soon as he joined.

My clan is a small clan, and we could never afford to immediately "gift" a recruit with almost 4m, nor would we want to for many reasons. I'm wondering if this is a common practice among larger clans. Some how it doesn't seem proper to me, but maybe I'm just naive.

I've seen clans do this, and I've seen circles of friends do this. I don't think it's a recruitment tactic so much as it is a way of being friendly and helping them get started again by giving them supplies and GP.

I think it's more of a social thing to be nice to new/returning players more than anything else.

We dont immediately give new recruits anything other than plenty of "Welcomes" and

advice when asked.

But....

I have seen clans actually advertise while trying to recruit that they will give

x amount to come to their clan.

In saying this, one person i know said he went and left 18 clans in 3 days and made

enough for 2 bonds doing this.
The richest person is not who has the most. It is who Needs the least.

I would say it was somewhat common, there are a few top clans who did this early on to get to the ranks they are now especially when dicing and flower game was a thing and some clans do it to spite ex clans, its especially easy for those who dont play within the games rules or have any kind of morality towards other clans. Or as the person you talked to mentioned it can just be a gift as they say.

Agree with that, some people are well off &/or generous & like to help out others. A new recruit wouldn't be common but it sounds like they were sharing their story & someone could empathise with their perspective.

Nothing to do with recruitment strategy, if there were clans that gave you millions for joining it would be widely known and preyed upon.

Not as if they advertise it publicly but they will pm high xp earners of certain clans and offer them a lot of money to switch clans.

Yeah, it's a shit tactic, but at the end of the day, the loyal ones will remain.
I'd rather have loyalty and fanbase over greediness any day. :)

My clan is dedicated to getting everyone max, I help how and when I can.
And even after we have alot of wealth, if ever, we won't be "bribing" anyone to join.
The wealth will be saved and shared evenly between all the loyal members at that point.
My intent is to run "Dead" Minigame content by providing game service such as " The Golden Ticket ", and gain notoriety and build a LEGEND and LEGACY to be proud was part of this community.

I don't believe "clans" actually buy people to join like that. I've seen several people (also from our clan) who just hand out gifts like that however.
4m is a lot indeed, but for those who do a lot of pvm and make 50m+ in just one week, it's just nothing to give away about 500k-1m to new/returning players (new accounts).

What i kinda wonder tho, why do you even bother for this? (no offence ment :) )
People who are buyable like that aint the loyal members you'd want in general, especially if you're a small clan, you'd rather have a steady base instead.
People who just join a clan cuz they get paid leave very often after, cuz they don't like the atmosphere.

Only clans i know who use this as a tactic (actually buying people) don't pay upon joining, but upon visiting clan citadel. They're too small and don't care for people leaving right away, they just wanna get cita up and then to start recruiting for the people they actually want to have in their clan. Everyone who stays is a nice add to them.
