Hey Forum,

Real Life gets in the way of Gaming and Gaming gets in the way of Real Life.

I would love a new subscription mechanic that would prevent wasted subscription times. E.g Tiered real-time subscriptions

I'm 26 and I have a kid now - Runescape was always a well needed distraction from life when I was younger, but now I can only play it once in a blue moon.

It's often a struggle to decide if it's worth buying membership for the very few limited hours I would be able to play.

Tiered real-time subscriptions could help me with that, I could buy '30 days game-time' (at a premium over the regular 30 days) which could span over a 6 month period, allowing me to play at my leisure and whenever I wanted to up to 30 days gameplay total.

Alternatively I thought about some return-to-play membership, if you're inactive for 30 days or something and have previously owned membership, you can claim a 1 day welcome back trial. The game is constantly being updated, I'd love to test some of these new features out and be able to decide whether to re-join the game without having to lock myself in.

There are certainly benefits in Jagex reviewing the subscription model, and perhaps offering something like you suggest.

I certainly support an investigation into this. Hopefully there will be a viable solution that works for all parties involved.

In my opinion, it's a great idea that could be implemented. Support.

Since many grew up playing this game and probably now have adult responsibilities or simply want to take some longer breaks, it could appeal to an important fraction of the player base and also new players. I don't know any popular MMORPG with a real-time membership.

I imagine Jagex would charge a bit more for this real-time subscription mode and/or have some kind of in-game restriction. My dark side is thinking about people potentially joining only during certain events (e.g. Yack Tracks) to get tradeable rewards through different accounts that could exploit the mode for a couple of years... paying one month or even two weeks with a single bond, lol.

Maybe I'm paranoid, but with every good idea comes a way to corrupt it :(

If it were implemented with ... you have x amount of time to use up your x time purchased. It would be more viable than just ... you have x amount of time to use indefinately.

Example.. Yak tracks and Dxp both are 4x a year. so @ every 3 months. so if the purchase were to be.. you purchased x amount of hours to be used within 90 days. and let it be only 1 purchasable option it would be more fair and help combat the real concerns you have mentioned Igerna.

But.... some people only play during dxp, or other holidays or time off so it could seem that a person would only be playing to benefit only during those times (examples you have mentioned.. yak track.. other holiday or events with items that could be later sold at high value) when in actuality that would not be the case.

Its a good idea and one ive seen a few times mentioned on forums about buying time instead of purchasing membership based on weeks, months etc regardless of actualy play time.

There would have to be alot of consideration into implementing it should Jagex do it and then that becomes is it worth devs etc taking time to figure it all out if only a handful (relatively speaking) of people want or would use it.
The richest person is not who has the most. It is who Needs the least.
