I have to wonder, was the twist of the Raptor being Ellamaria all along something that was always planned for that character, or was it an idea that came about later as the story evolved? Some might view this as a retcon, and I wouldn't blame them, considering the Raptor has been referred to by male pronouns on several occasions before this, and the player character has met both the Raptor and Ellamaria prior to this quest, so should have been able to recognize their voice right away. At the very least it was planed since Unwelcome Guests, as Ellamaria taking out the Dark Beasts off screen was foreshadowing to her combat abilities.

Personally, I don't like what they did with the Raptor either. They probably thought it would be a cool twist for the Raptor to turn out to be female, but that type of twist of "they were actually a woman this whole time!" has been done already in so many other stories (ever since the first Metroid game) that it's almost become a cliche at this point. I'd rather the Raptor's identity had remained a mystery and their gender be left ambiguous and as well. The mystery behind them was the most interesting part of their character. I don't really see where they could take their story now that the most interesting part about them has been removed.
