I think using this space to vent about an update I think hurts or shower more praise, then listen to any and all feedback on my opinions or the content I bring up could be a fun, therapeutic, learning experience for me. Here's Hilda's favorite and least favorite updates from the year Taylor Swift started dating an (American) football player.
WORST: Removal of the Wilderness Threat System.
I bet you guys were thinking "oh, Hero Pass, has to be." - and I'll admit, that is some pretty low hanging fruit. Most people would probably pick that one. But even Jagex realized that one flew like a lead balloon, and this update is more important to the game's identity in my opinion.
It's also probably highly controversial. At least one of you accused me of being someone that tries to PK runecrafters after reading that reveal.
While, yes, the biggest problem I have with this update is that it's the natural conclusion of what was going to happen with one of my least favorite updates of 2022 (which is -
"if you remove mandatory PvP from the Wilderness and people hate the threat system, Jagex is going to cave and just murder the Wilderness' identity by removing any and all threat later on."
- I wanna let it be known that I suck at PvP post-EoC, and don't particularly care for griefing.
This update did more than just "give the people what they wanted" and make the Wilderness tame. It invalidated Wilderness Slayer's risk. It turned several items earned through Wilderness Flash Events that had purposes into mere alchs. It effectively killed "active" thieving training methods with a reactionary nerf to Rogue's Castle safes. It killed the searing ashes rise.
There were two positives. A reactionary change that no longer required skulling up to use the Abyss (a stopgap measure to making rune crafting suck....less.) and removing the threat system from those who had PvP enabled, me and...the three others that did.
