Windows is ending support for what I would consider a vast majority of gaming PCs and laptops by ending Windows 10 support by 2025, and switching to what, currently is looking an awful lot like a closed hardware model for Windows 11, and with rumors of an AI based Windows 12 (and excessively wasteful hardware requirements therein). Meanwhile, the Linux-based Steam Deck is getting really popular.
I don't know about you all, but I spent years on my build, and I don't intend to throw it away in 2025. I think having a gaming PC is still a large part of being a PC gamer, and devices like the Steam Deck will be a large part of being a PC gamer in the future, and since currently it looks like Windows is going to, in essence drop support for this market, and Apple has never had support for this market, while I don't expect this kind of change to happen overnight, I do think a lot of us will move to Linux. Even a lot of us who don't think they would ever move to Linux, I think will be moving to Linux in the form of devices like the Steam Deck. As 2025 approaches, unless Windows vastly changes it's plans for Windows 11 and 12, I think it is going to become pretty clear, that it's easier to change out software than hardware. As it stands now, Linux looks like the future of gaming, and I think we will all appreciate the work going into a high quality native Linux port in 2025.
