Interesting suggestion, I don't mind the way we have it now though.
I think this update has been implemented in part by auras, you can still have a combat ring and a support aura, or a combat aura and support ring. Same concept, just doesn't use the exact same items.

The last time I checked, auras couldn't alch items or teleport me. The fact that some geniuses were laughed at does not imply that all who are laughed at are geniuses. They laughed at Columbus, Fulton, and the Wright brothers. But they also laughed at Bozo the Clown.

The last time I checked aura's didn't increased my drops nor counted my Slayer task kills.
