Hello, I'm Sirjoseph9 and welcome to Create Your Own Country (CYOC)!

So, shall we begin? Here's how you play:

1. Try to read everything here! Don't worry, you'll understand everything sooner or later. If you get frustrated at first, there's always a helpful country around to help.

2. Fill out an application, using the rubric a few posts down.

3. Pick some land on which you want to start your country. It can be...
- A specific Earth territory
- A planet of your creation

4. Read a few actual posts (apps, etc.) to get a feeling on how the game works.

5. Start playing. Over time start developing some technology, make alliances, invade land, etc.

6. Be creative with your country. Don't forget to develop your country's culture! Evolve it to display your own personality.

7. WHEN YOU START you have 2014 technology (tanks, guns, ability to travel to the moon, etc.) In this game, 1 real life day equals 1 game year.

8. Don't forget to use common sense, or else you may find some hostility from other players.

¤ Rules and Guidelines ¤

The rules are mostly common sense, though are still broken rather frequently. *cough* Read them:

1. No overpowering is allowed. No nation is immortal.

2. You can make or join an alliance or international organization, but your alliance's rules only apply to the members in your alliance.

3. No extreme acts of war without retort. The country receiving the blow must be there to retaliate.

4. No popular real-life celestial bodies may be destroyed.

5. You cannot force someone to take on a role they do not want to take on. You control only your own characters and countries unless somebody gives you their permission on the thread.

6. Your troop number cannot exceed your population. Your population must also be sensible and take the size of the land you own into consideration (I will not accept new countries having populations of 1 billion.)

7. Your power and ranking is based on:

- Age
- Activeness in posting
- Technology
- Military
- Cultural advancement

8. Projects must be named and posted with brief descriptions, although they may be classified to a certain extent. If a project is a very large project, its subsections must also be posted with names and brief descriptions. Projects started from this point on will not be started unless they have been posted.

9. Please be aware that even if the written rules do not restrict something, remain sensible in your actions. I will provide final judgment.

10. To obtain a new land, the land must be invaded. Only new countries will be able to claim land without any prior actions. Please ask around if the particular land has already been claimed before you obtain a new land.

¤ Claiming Land ¤

Use the rubric at the bottom to claim land. If you do not claim, you do not have a country. How is a country supposed to exist without land to exist on?

Guidelines for Claiming Land:

1. Please refer to the unofficial land lists compiled by Porsche102 (thank you Porsche) before claiming land to see what lands have already been claimed.

2. You cannot claim oceans or parts of oceans.

3. You must post the rubric to gain control of a particular land. No land claim will be honored unless you have filled out the rubric.

The following is only for claiming additional lands:

4. Each unowned territory in the CYOC world is considered an independent NPC nation. If you invade a territory, you have invaded another nation.

5. The inhabitants of each unowned territory will fight back.

6. Other player-owned countries may aid the independent nation against the invading nation. Be aware if you aid an independent nation of the consequences of being involved in a war.

7. A rubric must be filled out only when a nation has full control of the territory.

8. Some veteran players have territories reserved for new players. Ask around to see if one is willing to lease or give land to you.

¤ Country Power Ranking ¤

Power ranking is based on:
- Age
- Activeness in posting
- Technology & military
- Influence
- Cultural advancement

As you can see, activeness is an important role in your countries strength (borrowing this tidbit from NC). The less you post, the less you develop either culturally or militarily (whichever path you wish to take with your country) or developing storylines. However, age will still continue to be the largest factor.

These ranks will be updated each thread. They may change in minor to major ways by activeness or technological and military advancement. Defeating a country in war will not raise your rank.

¤ Board of Selected States (BoSS) ¤

The BoSS acts as a governing force for the game to maintain a fair and peaceful thread environment for all players. Any issues may be taken to them.

The BoSS consists of a permanent council of 2 players and a dynamic council of 3 players elected by the community. As thread holder and honorary member, I have the right to veto or void any motion. Any BoSS member can motion to remove a permanent council member. This motion will only pass if every other BoSS member votes yes.

Any BoSS member can introduce a motion to be voted on. BoSS members have one week to vote on a motion before it is closed. All BoSS motions which pass are considered official thread rules and are effective immediately.

If a player is accused of breaking rules, individual BoSS members will have the final say on whether or not the rules are indeed being broken and may void the player's actions. If multiple BoSS members disagree, it will go to a BoSS vote. If it is a BoSS member that is accused of breaking rules, it will go to a BoSS vote.

¤ Past BoSS Motions ¤

1. Oceans may not be claimed. Small parts of water may be claimed, but not entire oceans or seas.

2. The Clac Nation no longer exists. Ultramantid may create a new country. It may be a little more powerful then a regular 3rd world, though.

3. Sithlord Man has been voted to the BoG by thread-wide vote after a tie occurred in the BoG.

4. PLEASE read the land lists made by Porsche102. This is only a suggestion to all players and not a rule.

5. If you started a project and forgot about it, after 2 threads, the project will be decommissioned. Any project found now in early threads will be immune from the decommissioning. Any other projects from thread 7 and lower will be decommissioned if passed.

6. Board of Government (BoG) has been renamed Board of Selected States (BoSS).

7. No country may do anything including or related to time travel.

- Anti-Matter is NOT allowed for use in military vehicles, planes, engines, etc.

9. Sammer's Kingdom no longer exists.

10. Space is reopened. Players are allowed to claim up to 150 planets or 15 planetary systems. Planetary Systems are ONE to TEN planets around one star that are grouped together. If you reach the cap of planetary systems, you may still claim planets up to the planet cap. Should two players share a system, they may claim it as one half of a system by noting that it is shared with another player, or they may simply claim the specific planets. When listing a planetary system, you must note the number of planets in the system after it.

11. You cannot physically move your lands.

12. If a country does not post for a thread more then ten times (this does not include reposting applications, land lists, or tech lists) then they will be removed, their technology destroyed, and their land put on a reserve for new players. This is subject to exception when approved.

¤ Past BoSS Motions (continued) ¤

13. The time dilation of one game year per day of real life can be drastically reduced by the BOSS under special circumstances.
---13a. In accordance with Motion 13, the time dilation is to become 1 week of game time per day of real life, for the duration of all Olympic Games.

14. Countries can still use the 1 day=1 year rule for deciding the a country's age even when the BOSS has voted to change the time ratio.

15. Only popular well-known celestial bodies may not be destroyed.

16. Members CAN NOT use their BOSS power to settle what is considered to settle their own business (for instance, a BOSS member trying to BOSS motion a rival's tech out of the game). ANY player can accuse a BOSS member for this, and an investigation will follow, during which time their motion will be suspended. If they are found guilty, the motion shall be struck down.

17. A series of motions dealing with previous BOSS motions.
---17a. BoSS Motion #8, "Anti-Matter is NOT allowed for use in military vehicles, planes, engines, etc." shall be repealed.
---17b. In BoSS Motion #10 an addendum shall be added to state that the limit of ownership is subject to exception in special cases when approved.
---17c. Not passed.
---17d. BoSS Motion #12 shall be subject to exception in special cases when approved.
---17e. BoSS motion #4 will become a suggestion instead of a rule (a statement will be posted afer the rules).

18. Exchanging items in-game or in real life for rewards in Create Your Own Country is not allowed.

19. Darknis133's Greenland-sized fictional continent on Earth has been banned. Please remain sensible in the creation of fictional continents or lands.
