It is actually a number, sort of:
L=50
O=0
L=50
Since the L is the Roman numeral for 50, and since the variables are next to each other, let's say 50x0x50...so, LOL=0

But there is no such thing as 0 in Roman numerals. Therefore it becomes algebra.
50xOx50 = 2500xO
=2500O
Therefore LOL=2500O
