The Netherlands consists of 12 provinces but many people use “Holland” when talking about the Netherlands. The two provinces of Noord- and Zuid-Holland together are Holland. The 12 provinces together are the Netherlands.
Holland is often used when all of the Netherlands is meant.


It's an alternative name to the Netherlands.

I know everything about Netherlands, you don't have to google and paste here the first thing. :P
People use it often but that doesn't mean it's correct. Holland is western region in Netherlands. I know it's very common among people to make that mistake. It is more of a nickname and we are posting the actual country names here so if it's not a problem for you let's keep doing that. :)
