I've never really had any managers that gave off that vibe.
One could say it might just be your paranoia.
True, that some offices and places when a new manager comes in, they will try to bring in some of "their" people (former coworkers or people/staff they developed). At my office, we had that in our engineering group when the new CTO came on board. He had 1 developer come in he knew, they eventually brought on a 2nd they knew. (they didn't replace anyone. it was actually enlarging the team)
But in retail environment at the store level, this is usually a bad approach, given the eventual turnover rate.
It could be possible that he's trying to give you a nudge to either work harder/more because of a perception on his side to make himself look good in his first month/quarter in charge ... or he thinks the issue is on your end (despite your hard work, maybe he just thinks you aren't giving 100% or at his last location, he had what he perceived to be a better team.)
It could also be possible that he also thinks you might have more potential than just being a stocker, and he wants to see what added pressure does to you before he even thinks about making recommendations for the managerial program (looking into making you a store assistant mgr)
i got no idea what this guy wants but im not sure if its anything you mentioned. my forums is buggin out and not letting me post anything longer than two sentances :/
