I just thought I may as well use them since I don't really train smithing except from daily challenges/jack of trades.

Yeah definitely, I'm not sure how expensive smithing is right now so you might be saving a bit as the protean bars are free

Smithing is pretty much free for me as long I don't buy any bars and do anything that gives me free xp (ie protean bars, jack of trades, xp lamps).

Out of all of the 120 capes, I'd like to get 120 slayer the most, with 120 dungeoneering being a close second based on looks.

120 Slayer definitely looks cool, it's one of my most wanted too I have Dungeoneering, it's not really special to me, the colours are boring haha. I like Defence, Magic, Farming, Hitpoints, Thieving & Divination, although Divination will take forever bleh!
