RSOF Card Game
==========================
==========================

Welcome! I know this is a very ambitious endeavor, but I hope it is well-met! WARNING: If you are a “tl;dr” person, this is probably not for you, at least not immediately.

This thread contains the very first Runescape Forums Card Game! That’s right, a forum-based card game! How does that work exactly? I’m glad you asked, since it will probably be a unique experience in this environment.

Basically, each player will select a “deck” of 16 cards from the Library below (currently at 200 cards), and pair up with each other and battle in replies to one another until only one is left standing. There may be other people’s battles going on at the same time, but it should be simple enough to keep up with.

So spend a few minutes to learn how to play, pick a selection of cards, and start a game! Good luck :)

============ Rulebook =======================

Players begin with 5,000 LP. Armor and abilities can boost this. During the game, you utilize Anima Cards to build up power to perform actions and summon Monsters. Anima can come from Runes or from raw anima itself. Each Rune will provide 1 type of anima, and colorless anima can be used to meet generic anima requirements but cannot be used to meet specific color requirements. Monsters who are Devoid can be summoned using any anima color.

You will use Monsters, Items, and Special cards to build up forces to overwhelm and defeat your opponent. The last player with LP left wins the game.

Each game begins with each player choosing a 16 card deck of their choice from the Library. You are only allowed to have TWO of each card in your Deck, except for anima cards (which you are allowed up to THREE of each type) and cards gained from the General Store during the game. Monsters Conjured during the game (ie, created by effects in the game itself) do not count towards this. IMPORTANT: Due to the forum nature of this game, one person’s cards will be posted before the other….please do not look at your opponent’s cards before selecting your own. This goes off the Honor system, but the integrity of the game depends on its fairness.

Before the game, a roll of the Timestamp is performed to decide who starts the game. A Timestamp Roll simply means one player makes a post performing the roll, and the Seconds outcome on the Timestamp of the post is used to decide the outcome of the Roll. In this case, one player calls “Odds” or “Evens”, and the player that wins the roll gets to choose who goes first.

After choosing who will go first, each player’s Deck now becomes his/her Pool, a combination of what most games separate between the Deck and Hand. All cards are listed publically for each player to see at all times. Then, the first player begins his/his first turn. NOTE: On the first turn, the opponent takes no damage.

============================
The Playing Area

The playing area is divided into three zones -- each player’s Pool, the Battlefield, and the Graveyard. Most of the action of the game takes place on the Battlefield. Any card destroyed or discarded is sent to the Graveyard.

Also on the Battlefield is the General Store. The General Store always has the following cards available for purchase:

Lobster (Quantity: 5) - 5 coins

Adrenaline Potion (Quantity: 5) - 4 coins

Prayer Potion (Quantity: 5) - 7 coins

Elemental Rune (Quantity: 5) - 6 coins

Catalytic Rune (Quantity: 3) - 8 coins

Antidote (Quantity: 3) - 2 coins

Divine Focus (1 each, purchased in order - Divine Focus Base, Divine Focus Tower, Divine Focus Apex, Divine Focus Blaster) - 10 coins each

At any point, if no cards remain in the Pool, the entire Graveyard is added to the Pool.

Each Turn:

(The first turn player cannot attack or inflict any damage on that first turn.)

Each turn is divided into three parts:

Pre Phase , Battle Phase, and Post Phase

Each will be elaborated below:

Pre Phase - during the Pre Phase, the following actions can be taken:
Normal Summoning 1 Monster to the field. You may only Normal Summon 1 Monster this way per turn AND only if you do not control any other Monsters.. Any other Summoning must be done via card effects.
Activating 1 Prayer Special Card. Only one of these may be activated per turn, as they usually provide very powerful effects.
Activating 1 Anima Card of any type.
Activating any number of other Special Cards that can be legally activated.
If at any time, the Pool becomes empty, you may add your Graveyard to your Pool.
You may use GP to purchase any items at the General Store. Items purchased from the General Store are added to that player’s Pool.
You may activate a Protection Prayer if you have enough Prayer Points. See the Prayer section for more info.
Using any Monster Effect that you are able to do so.

Battle Phase - during the Battle Phase, the following actions can be taken:
Applying/Using any Monster Effect that specifically mentions it can be used during the Battle Phase.
Attacking the other player’s Monster(s) with any of your Monster(s).
During an Attack, the monster’s attack damage (displayed next to the attack) is subtracted from the monster’s Life Point total.
Attacking the player’s Life Points directly if they control no monsters.
During a Direct Attack, the monster’s attack damage (displayed next to the attack) is subtracted from the player’s Life Point total.
Any Card effect that specifically mentions it specifically is used during the Battle Phase.

Post Phase - during the Post Phase, the following actions can be taken:
Apply any Card effect that specifically mentions is used during the Post Phase.
The turn player MUST discard 1 card from their Pool to the Graveyard.
Ends the turn. Any effect that happens here is executed.
========================
Anima -

A player’s Anima is the main resource used to conduct actions in the game. Only 1 Anima Card may be activated per turn. The primary ways to gain Anima are playing Rune Cards and playing Raw Anima cards.
Rune Cards are played and remain on the field until removed or consumed. When played (and at the beginning of every turn thereafter), each Rune Card provides 1 Anima of its corresponding type. Rune Cards may also be consumed (and thereafter sent to the Graveyard) by a card or Monster effect/attack.
Raw Anima Cards are one-use but provide an immediate boost of Anima of certain types. These are sent to the Graveyard after use.
An effect that uses Anima will specify the number and type of Anima it needs to successfully resolve. Once used, that Anima is depleted. Most powerful Monsters will have an Anima cost to even be Summoned.

Anatomy of a Monster Card

====================
Name - This is the card’s name. Any effect that uses quotation marks referring to a card’s name must use the exact quoted text.
LP - This is how many Life Points that Monster has. Stronger Monsters will typically have more LP.
Anima Affinity/Cost - all Monsters will have an Anima Affinity, which is what color of Anima it aligns with, used in various effects throughout the game. The Anima Cost, if any, will tell you how much Anima of the given type(s) that must be consumed to Summon the Monster to the field.
Type - All Monsters will have a Type. This is referenced and utilized in different effects. For example, “Human” and “Slayer” are two different Types that the game utilizes.
Effects - many Monsters have effects that can be used during the Pre Phase (and other times). Some special Effects even have names to highlight their usefulness and possibly reference in other cards.
Attacks - all Monsters will have at least 1 Attack. The Attack is conducted during the Battle Phase and will target an opponent’s Monster or the opponent directly. Many attacks have additional effects, and most also inflict damage. Attacks are classified as either Melee, Ranged, Water, Fire, Wind, Earth, and Typeless. Collectively, the Water, Fire, Wind, and Earth are all “Magic” Attacks and are affected by effects that influence “Magic”, including the Protect from Magic Prayer.
Weakness - many Monsters will have a Weakness, which means they will take additional damage (usually double damage) from enemies of that type.
Drops - most Monsters will have a GP drop when killed, which will award the opponent that many GP. Some monsters will also have other drops, on a card-by-card basis. In all cases, the Monster must be destroyed by battle (not by card effect) to Drop any item, unless otherwise noted.

====================
Prayers
====================
Each Player begins the game with 5 Prayer Points. You may only have 1 Prayer active at any time. Each Prayer, once activated, lasts until the beginning of your next turn.

There are three generic Prayers -- Protect from Melee, Protect from Magic, and Protect from Ranged. These are NOT cards. You may activate any of the Protection Prayers by consuming 1 of your Prayer Points. The Protection Prayers prevent ALL damage of its type (Melee, Magic, Ranged) inflicted to you or your Monsters while active.

Other Prayers are found on Special Cards and generally consume your Prayer Points to unleash powerful effects to help you.

===============
Gold Pieces
===============

Gold Pieces, or “GP”, are the secondary resource of the game. Currently, the sole use of GP is to purchase items from the General Store or to activate certain card effects. Items purchased from the General Store with GP are added to your Pool.

Different Effects and Attacks can cause status effects on Monsters and players. Here is a list:

Poison: A player or Monster that is poisoned will lose 500 LP at the beginning of their turns.
Bound: A player or Monster that is Bound cannot Heal or Attack for the duration of the Bind.
Stun: A Monster that is Stunned has its Effects negated and cannot Heal or Attack for the duration of the Stun. Players cannot be Stunned..
Burn: A Monster or Player that is Burned will take 2000 damage at the end of their turn, then this status goes away.
Crippled: A Monster or player that is Crippled cannot use any Prayers, and Prayers have no effect on a Crippled Monster or player.
Disease: A Monster that is diseased causes their owner’s Anima to decrease by 1 at the end of their turn. Players cannot be diseased.
=======================

A player wins the game when one of the following occurs:

The player reduces the opponent’s Life Points to 0.
The player successfully activates the effect of Divine Focus Blaster.
One week passes without the opponent making a move.

Example Board (player A and B’s deck was posted back at the beginning of their game)
===========================

Player A posts:

Goblin - 300 LP
Goblin - 300 LP
General Wartface - 800 LP
Big High War Prayer (2 counters)
Yu’Biusk
2 Nature Runes
1 Earth Rune
Adamant Armor

Player B

Rebel Elf Spy - 700 LP
Elf Songstress - 1100 LP

2 Soul Runes

Player A attacks with 1 of the goblins and General Wartface on the Songstress, killing it thanks to Big High War Prayer’s and Yu’Biusk’s boost, then the second Goblin is able to take out what’s left of the Rebel Elf Spy’s LP, again thanks to its boosts. “

And it’s as simple as that! Good luck and hope you enjoy!

This is the collection of all 200 cards made for the game. If I must, I'll post all of them (and if my calculations are correct, that's between 75-80 posts), but if the mods will allow it, here is the (safe) link:
