I see...

Well, we used to have Mod regulars in here, Loos (Lucius55) & later (not sure if I'm allowed to say this??) Myself :O

Although, back then we used Arial size 10 and later size 9. After the complete font change though it all sort of fell apart. :(

If we got a better font from Jagex (hint-hint), like Arial back (not black) (hint-hint) I'm sure the community would re-form and be quite strong and robust. We'd stand the test of time!

But as it goes, Jagex don't like us and keep changing the font. :(

At least we get a sticky?

:o really? Congratz!!

Wasn't really for me, gotta watch what you post and be the "Role Model" of the community. Plus I felt like I had to go around locking & hiding rubbish threads/posts.

Back then the BD# was the only place for me :)

EDIT: Must add in the "Games" section of the forums too I guess :o

When I started it was Ariel 9, but I had a good couple years of work saved in that font, when the font changed, I tried to keep going but my heart wasn't in it.

I could make just about anything in that font, obviously not anywhere near the same standard as like Saphira or any of the epic artists, but I was happy with what I could do lol.

I would actually pay Jagex to put the font back to Ariel 9, Hell Ariel anything would do, It would be a start at least.

But they won't, several mods have already stated that we "the art community" aren't supposed to exist anyway, since were not actually making games.

If they changed the font a lot of artists would probably come back, but at the same time, the community was pretty much dying when I started, the font change just made it faster.

Yea, it was slowly dying... But with Arial being a nicer and easier font to work with new artists came through and thus was actually working to keep the community fresh and alive.

Also with the mod part, where has this been said? O_o
I remember having talks with J Mods, (although I suppose the ones I used to commune with have disappeared :( ) and them actually being ENVIOUS of our talent.
Plus, it's a game of skill creating ASCII Art, especially if you're having Art Wars

Anyway,
I don't think any majority of the old community would come back if the font was returned to it's former glory. It's sad to say it, but that's just the way I think it would pan out. Although maybe I'm wrong, it would be nice to see the BD# alive and well again, 10+ pages per day... ;)

The truth is that people have grown up and moved on. This has been happening since ascii started, but we never really noticed how many people left because there were always two more people to "replace" them. However, fewer and fewer people have taken up ascii over the past 4 years, so there is no one to replace the people that leave.

4 years ago, Prince left and RSA was gone. This was the first blow. No school would ever reach the same level of activity as RSA had had.

Then a year later they changed the font, causing a mass exodus of the remaining artists with nobody but a handful left willing to teach new artists.

Now we've been in this state of limbo for the past couple of years with artists like myself who may really want to move on, but can't out of fear that nobody will be left if we do. Besides Ruby there has been no new artist in the past two years that has reached a high enough level to teach others.

That's why I refuse to let PSS become inactive, because that (and DFS) are our only hopes. DFS to inspire non-artists, and then PSS to teach them.

I would continue ASCII but, I'm nowhere as good as I use to be. I wouldn't have the confidence in me to make big logos for people or teach anyone how to do them.

On top of that, the real fun for me was talking to other artists like Nop and Agile, and comparing our skills (though I would always lose) lol

I pop in and check every now and then in the hope that maybe the community has kick started again and is active, but it seems it will be like this until the remaining handful give up.

Maybe one day we will all be surprised and a bunch of people will want to learn and the community will come back... Maybe
