“Come here Iffy,” called Zemouregal, holding his hand to the ground.

Iffy scampered from behind a trashbin and scurried into Zemouregal's lowered hand.

"Who's a good boy?" cooed Zemouregal, pulling a piece of cheese out of his pocket and handing it to the rat.

He watched as Iffy grabbed the cheese in his hand and nibbled on it. Zemouregal looked up and gazed at the streets of Varrok. Plague and pestilence swarmed the air as the citizens shuddered under the weight of the dead unattended in the streets.

He chuckled slightly and made his way into the palace. The courtyard and halls were littered with dead and soon to be dead palace workers and guards. He turned slowly to enter the throne room. Zemouregal stepped over the bloody corpse of Aeonisig Raispher and gazed at the king, who sat on his throne.

King Roald's droopy eyes looked up at Zemouregal and widened in shock and anger.

"You...I should've known..." rasped King Roald, blood dripping from the corners of his mouth.

Zemouregal tittered happily and exited the palace and headed for the church. He passed Father Lawrence's body splayed over his podium. Blood, vomit, and drool dripped from his mouth onto the carpet.

Zemouregal approached the altar before a black cat shot passed him and hissed at Iffy. Iffy scurried up Zemouregal's head and chittered frightfully. He scowled angrily at the cat and kicked it before standing in front of the altar.

"Qe nom de mon seigneur Zamorak!" he cried, raising his hands to the sky. Clouds swirled around the church and lightening shot through the ceiling and cracked the altar in half. A red haze surrounded the altar before dispersing and leaving a Zamorak altar in its place.

Zemouregal smiled before heading for the tower stairs. He climbed to the top of the tower and gazed at the destruction
before him.

"Look at that little guy. Yes you did all this. Such a beautiful creature you are. What a beautiful thing you did," he sighed, grabbing Iffy and stroking him gently.

Honorable Mention, Small is Beautiful

Title: The Squire of Sir Amik Varze

I, a squire of Sir Amik Varze, was commanded to Falador following the disappearance of several royal guards. My search began just outside the castle gates where a statue of Saradomin pointed back towards my origin. I knew that my aspirations for knighthood could not be dissuaded by fear. I needed liquid courage.

The Rising Sun had become a second home to many of the guards after duty. Emily and Kaylee, two dazzling barmaids, were more than happy to sell their drinks in excess. Those too drunk to make it home made their way upstairs. You could always find a stumbling drunk or a sleeping guard at one of the many tables. Tina, who was accustomed to washing drool off the tables, had told me that she had not seen her patrons in a while. I settled myself in a chair in hopelessness as she handed me one Asgarnian ale.

I felt the sun on my face as I woke to hear seagulls sitting on the moorings of three dingys. I was tied! Two loose ropes fastened me to a barrel. As I freed myself, I noticed a note nailed to a crate that was sitting in front of me. It read "your answers lie west."

There was a beached starfish with another note laid under it, it read "you drink your troubles away and I kill mine." I tucked the cryptic message in my pocket and turned around. There stood a man with a sharpened stick to my throat. He whispered to me "I told you I am no one that you want to tangle with."

"Silif!"

He lunged forward and to his surprise skewered a cabbage along with a note.

"Small is beautiful" it read, "You forgot my Explorer's Ring!"

Honorable Mention, Small is Beautiful

A snowflake fell on Titan's cheek. She smiled. She always loved the snow. Small but always unique. It showed her how something so small can always be different. Yet it can always attach with the rest of the snowflakes, connect with them. She wished people would be more like that.

She made the wish upon the next snowflake she saw. "Please let the people of the world be more like you, please?" With that, she smiled again. A glimmer of hope in her eyes. She had to leave her friends, the snowflakes.

As she began to walk away a chilly wind blew against her. The snowflake followed her home. It traveled along beside her to the door of her house. Riding along the wind. Finally, settling along the ground outside her door.

"Farewell friend." she said, and she walked into the warmth of her home.

1st Place, Armies of Gielinor (Zamorak)

Gods play games with the lives of men. Not chess--only two sides. Not poker--too many rules. No, gods prefer dice. It's fair, and there's always an opportunity to cheat.

In Gielinor, there are many gods and many games. But only three gods matter, and only one game decides the fate of the realm.

"MYSELF BLESS IT!" swore the god in red and black robes. His eyes were scarlet embers, and glistening horns protruded from the sides of his head.

"calm down zamorak," said the god on Zamorak's right. He was dressed in druidic robes and the only thing of note on his head was the lack of hair. "it's just a game."

"YOU WOULDN"T SAY THAT IF YOU HAD LOST."

"You Win Some, You Lose Some," replied the god on Zamorak's left. His long snow-white beard obscured part of his sky-blue robes. "Shall We Get On With The Game Then? I'd Like To Test My Rangers Against Your Army, Zamorak."

Zamorak snorted. "THEY'LL BE EASY TO DEFEAT."

"count me out for this round," Guthix said.

"VERY WELL. YOUR ROLL, SARADOMIN."

Saradomin picked up the dice and threw.

They landed on a triangular table, upon which a map of Gielinor lay. This was no ordinary map, for it was the same size as the land it detailed.

"Two Sixes And An Eight. That's My Barbarian To The Portal And Two Rangers To Yours."

Zamorak examined the three cubes. "CHEATER. THAT'S MY DOMAIN." He tossed the dice. "AHA. THREE NINES."

"Now Who's Cheating?" challenged Saradomin.

Their game was watched by several other beings of power.

"Oh, I love this part,” commented Iban. "Necromancers and their skeleton armies. Beat that Saradomin!"

"Astnhott'nwl?ohyunhaot," queried the Chaos Elemental.

"Of course it was an unholy throw! He's Zamorak, isn't he?" responded a dwarf god.

"...ossseugI," the elemental said doubtfully.

The dice thrown by Saradomin and Zamorak were cubes no longer. The battling gods threw glowing orbs that flickered red and blue as each tried to outmaneuver the other.

Oohs went up from the spectators as Zamorak rolled Complete Obliteration and destroyed Saradomin's remaining forces.

"AS I SAID. THEY WERE EASY TO DEFEAT," Zamorak said smugly.

"shall i play winner?" asked Guthix as Saradomin stalked angrily away. "i have some sea slugs i want to try out."

"YOU'RE ON. MY ROLL." Zamorak threw, and the games began anew as they have done for centuries.

End Place, Armies of Gielinor (Zamorak)

NOTE: THE FOLLOWING PIECE IS WRITTEN IN FINNISH.

Siin’ makaa Olavi Kaarlonpoika, piesty.
Näil’ taistelukentil’ kunniavartios’ saateltu.
Ol’ häntä kyljestä repäisty,
kuin riistaeläintä raadeltu.

Ol’ häl’ kokemusta, pahemmastakin selv**dytty,
hengissä aina taistoista kävellyt pois.
Kuink’ tähän ol’ päädytty?
Miten tästä viel’ Olavi selvitä vois’?

Peto suuri ja julma,
purrut, kynsinyt, kaik’ tieltään tappanut.
Tuo leijona ol’ sotilaille surma,
mut’ vertaisekseen Olavi itselleen katsonut.

Raskaan kirveen heilahdus,
osuman voima miehen murskais’.
Oli pedoltakin päässyt parah*us,
mut’ edes tuo isku ei hengiltä sitä sais.

Vasten Olavia koko voimallaan heittäytyi,
miehen maahan painoi.
Kuolemaansa veteraanimmekin pelästyi,
vaik’ pedon hetkiä viimeisiä suullansa vannoi.

Pimeys, tuo sotilaalle ystävä viimeisin,
ol’ Olavin osakseen ottanut.
Pimeys, pehmeä, tuskaa rauhoittavin,
ei sankarin henki kuitenkaan viel’ kadonnut.

Käytti toveri voimaa mustaa,
itse pimeyttäkin vahvempaa.
Huudahti vihulainen: ”Katsokaa!”,
ei oltu nähty Olavin ilmettä tuimempaa.

Punaisin silmin, paholaisen voimin,
ol’ Olavi saanut mahdollisuuden toisen.
Barbaari, mies uskollinen Zamorakin,
elinvoimaa sai tappaen linnun lentäväisen.

Pedon vuoro, kuolema,
tämä olkoon Olavin kosto.
Takanansa koko pimeyden voima,
ei siihen vaadittu kuin yksi kirveen nosto.

Urho, sankari taistelun,
kotiansa ans*itusti kaipasi.
Kauniin vaimonsa tavoitellun,
syliin rauhaan halusi.

Kotonansa ei kuullut vaimonsa anelun,
hurmoksessaan, nälissään vain puraisi.
Sisällänsä jää, veri vaimon poisti palelun.
Ilman rakastaan, mistä voimaa elämään hän keräisi?

Julmista julmin on mestari,
urheimpansakin uhreiksi heittää.
Zamorakin nimeä kantava petturi,
jos sillä omaa mahtiansa kehittää.
