Itari is a 3rd party NPC.

I forget who created him, but he interfaces with the RS system as if he was a player, and to everyone, he looks like a player. But Itari is really a computer.

Itari is kinda like the old autominers (Autorune especiall; as it interfaced directly with the packet stream), except that he is so complex that he is intelligent and acts like a person.

The first post explains a lot of the histroy.

Zert was the original main character, he defeated the first program 6 years before this story took place.
Itari was created for the same purpose Zert served, and thus joined him and his other allies to fight the program.

The staff was his weapon- enhanced by a hacker to become even more powerful. He used it to combat with the program- named Xia(c)z. Xia(c)z was defeated, yet lived on in a copy of the program.

"You've changed, man." Red Villain put his hand on Zert's shoulder. "You've changed a lot."
Zert shrugged Red Villain's hand away. "I was forced to pit two of my friends against each other, in order to keep the greatest secret of all time. It's hard to not be cynnical."
Red Villain sighed. "Zert, the bottom line is: we won. The program is gone, and we should be able to keep it from ever coming back."
"Have we? What if it does come back?"
"Then we'll be here again, to fight it again. Zert, we aren't ever leaving until we know it is safe."
"We can't be around forever. The program will come back again one day, it is bound to happen. And who will stop the program when we can't? Virtue Co.? They're the same leadership, just a new name..."
Red Villain shook his head. "Zert..."
"Just forget about it, Red. You're right, I have changed."
"Look man, the program is gone, let's just leave it at that."
Zert shook his head. "It won't ever be gone, until someone can find a way to destroy it or good."
"Then we'll find a way."
Zert laughed a little. "You're too optimisic, that'll catch up with you one day."
"Hmm. Well, what would you have us do with the program?"
Zert paused, deep in thought. "Atery has the pass word, 007Ki has the program. For now, we are set, I guess. But this is a very temporary solution to a permanent problem."
"What do we need to do? Just tell me and I'm behind you all the way."
Zert shook his head, and chuckled again. "Not this time, Red. For once, I think we don't see eye to eye. I've found a solution."
Red Villain stayed silent, waiting for Zert to finish.
"I'm quitting Red, I want out."
Red Villain was speechless.

The guy up there explained it perfectly.

Jeht is Itari. Itari is a computer program, programmed to be as lifelike as possible. Thus, Jeht is not real, just a program... basically a smart NPC, with his own emotions and what not.


The staff is broken, as was explained, and will be further delved into.
