Chapter 8: Black Skies

Jay logged back in, still just outside of the warehouse in Port Sarim. He had taken a day off to assure his family that he had just been very busy in-game, and that there were no problems at all. Yet, there were many problems- Scyne had the pass word. It was his own fault, really, but he somehow believed Scyne would choose not to hurt anyone. In the same respect, he felt that something was terribly wrong, like something bad would happen at any moment...

Zert and Jeht(Itari) approached Jay. Zert stepped up to him, and looked him in the eyes- Jeht stayed a bit behind, towering over his accomplice.
Zert's expression was cold. "You have some things I need."
"We've been over this before, Zert."
"I wanted them, before. I need them now."
Jay shrugged. "I don't have it."
"I'm sure you don't. Look, Jay, this is no game."
Jeht chuckled a bit, then spoke. "This is very simple. You give us what we want, we leave, no harm, no foul."
Jay thought it over. "Wait, you said some 'things'... more than one?"
"Yes," Zert replied, "You give us the pass word, then you help us finish a.... project of sorts."
Jay turned to walk away. "I'm not interested."
Jeht stepped in front of Zert, and held Jay back. "I think you are interested."
Jay didn't move for a second, as he reached toward his sheath. Then, in the blink of an eye, he turned and stabbed at Jeht. Jeht ducked the blade, then dived at Jay, tackling him to the ground.
Jay pushed Jeht to the side, then rolled over on top of him. He punched at his face, but his hand was caught from above- from Zert.
Zert twisted Jay's hand back, then quickly released it and put Jay in a choke hold. "Ready to cooperate?"

Scyne and Timmins stood motionless, staring at each other. Finally, Scyne broke the silence.
"You requested a meeting with me, can I assume that you actually wanted to speak with me?"
Timmins nodded. "You have the program, and the pass word, correct?"
Scyne laughed. "Correct. You want me to hand it over? If you do, you might as well just leave."
Timmins continued, without acknowledging Scyne. "I am tired of working at the bottom of the food chain. I want power."
"What are you saying?"
"Give me a position... under you, of course."
Scyne examined Timmins carefully. "You're employer wants you to join me, gain my trust, then betray me?"
Timmins's mouth dropped.
"Yes, Matthew, I am a lot smarter than you give me credit for."
Timmins turned, stunned at his failure.
Scyne was still laughing. "Still, I will let you join me."
Timmins remained speechless.
"Timmins, the grass is truly greener on the other side- my side."
Timmins finally gathered himself enough to reply. "Why would you accept me if you knew I wasn't on your side..."
Scyne shrugged. "You will be, in time. My cause isn't as evil as you all give me credit for."
"Well, um... When does it happen?"
"When do I release the program?"
Timmins nodded.
"Ten minutes ago."

Jay, Zert, and Jeht sat in the White City Tavern.
Jay sighed. "So, you want me to help you recharge your staff...?"
Zert nodded. "We were able to fully recover the pieces, but the energy it once held isn't there."
"And, just how do we go about doing this?"
Zert paused a moment, choosing his words. "We have a plan, to catch the program right at its peak of power, and use it to charge the...staff."
Jay was incredulous. "So, we're going to use the program...what you're trying to protect... to power some staff?"
Something seemed out of place.
