((Accepted Blue. And Snow, the setting is the setting. Some place. Yeah.))

When Damien Rickford fell asleep last night, waking up with superpowers was the last thing he'd been expecting.

It wasn't like anything had changed, or at least, nothing that he was in any way aware of. He just woke up as he usually did at 7AM, went for a shower and BOOM, next thing he knew there were a bunch of these glowing light particles floating around the bathroom. At first he thought it'd just been a trick of the eyes, but the particles persisted, and when he idly went to touch them they reacted to his hand motion.

Cue confusion, excitement and a short period of checking out what he could do before a friendly reminder (his phone's alarm) told him he had to move his ass if he wanted to get to school on time. Naturally, he considered taking the day off, but figured he'd keep up the excellent attendance he'd maintained for his high school years.

...And that's the story of how George avoided describing Damien waking up in detail!

-

March 7th, 2018. 8:38AM. Alsdale High.

Damien arrived at school well before the last bell, heading inside and making the short trek through the corridors towards his locker. Here and there people called out to him, saying their good mornings, asking if he was up for hanging out later on or generally trying to get his attention in some way. The youth acted normally, smiling, replying in his friendly manner and making vague mentions of 'we need to hang out again sometime, but not today', or something to that standard.

After all, today he was gonna go figure out what else he could do with these super powers.

((Enjoy this terrible intro and make your own equally terrible intros.))

Ryan arrived at the school, oblivious to the powers granted to him by some mysterious entity. As of that morning, the greatest miracle was that he actually managed to calm his younger sister down that morning. He would have to remember how he did that.

Was it really as simple as just asking her to be quiet? Surely it's more complicated than that.

The locker door flew open, and Ryan forced himself to smile. It was strong, but was far from genuine. His parents convinced him to decorate the interior of the storage space with inspirational quotes and other "fixes" for his condition.

Books were replaced, the backpack's inventory was confirmed, and Ryan was going to have a terrible day.

NO! Don't think like that!

Darkness threatened to overtake Ryan. He could feel the pressure in his chest, the heaviness of his eyes. He didn't want to do anything.

"You're normal, son," his dad had said, "Just fight through it."

Head bowed to the world around, Ryan made his way to class.
Cower, worship, or beg. All are valid choices.

If he had obtained superpowers, Shiro Clancy’s must have been the lamest in the world. He certainly didn't feel any more powerful, struggling for the alarm while clutching at his bed sheets for their last vestiges of comforting warmth. It didn't take long for him to forget about his dream, resigning himself to his routine after the seventh snooze – shower, bag, breakfast.

Making his way down the hallway, he found breakfast already laid out – his sister apparently going on ahead on Student Council business. Though the omelette was the envy of the cooking club, he found himself not able to stomach a bite * the green seaweed sludge shake his sister forced upon him was as bad as ever, but he was parched and today it only marginally difficult to choke down.

It wasn't a far walk to school, so Shiro joined the increasingly obnoxious teen train crowding the streets on their last minute hurry to school. As he stumbled towards the school, he found he had obtained a sudden interest in people’s unbuttoned shirts, their creased collars or lack thereof. It wasn't like he was OCD – at least, he didn't think he was… but their exposed necks seemed to awaken something in him he didn't quite understand.

Finally he passed the front gate of the school, nearby girls giving him a wide berth as usual – staring at their necks on the way probably did nothing for his already infamous reputation. Ignoring them, he made his way to the drinking fountain (man, was he parched!), before the bell rang.

Glenn, like all his peers, groggily woke up that morning, cursing the alarm clock that was currently blaring at him. He got up, got ready for school, and made his way out the door. However, unlike his peers, Glenn did not descend when he made his way down the stairs of his home, instead remaining perfectly level with the top.

"WHAT THE HELL?" Glenn panicked, before falling into place, and subsequently down the stairs.

"Oh my god, Glenn, are you alright!?" Rang his mother's voice, picking him up off the ground. "What happened?"

"I just...it was....I guess I was still half asleep, and tripped down the stairs." Glenn said, shakily rising from his position on the floor and brushing himself off. "I'm alright, but I suppose I'll be off now; see you when I get home." He said, quickly making his way out the door.

The rest of the morning was as normal, jokes to his friends by the locker, stupid remarks on how he had clumsily fallen down the stairs, and attempting to get sympathy from any girl that would make the mistake of looking in his direction.

A fairly average Wednesday, besides the whole 'superpowers' thing he had yet to grasp.

Even if she had been able to remember the dream from the previous night, Alicia wouldn’t have felt like there was anything different about her. Her early-morning run went the same as it always did, the mist-shrouded streets and pre-sunrise light adding the same peaceful tranquility to her route as they normally did. To most people, getting up before they had to leave for school would be lunacy, and actually making the effort to go running even more so, but it had been part of her life for so long that it was completely natural at this point.

The only oddity of the morning was during breakfast after her run, during which she pulled out a gallon jug of water while thinking about how she really would rather have the orange juice that they ran out of the day before. Not really paying attention as she poured, Alicia was shocked to discover after she put the jug away and sat down that there was actually orange juice in her glass. It was confusing enough that it made her get back up and check the fridge again to make sure she hadn’t been hallucinating, which she wasn’t sure if she had been or not when it was clear that it was a container marked as water but clearly had orange juice in it.

The oddities did*’t continue, and she made it to school without much of a problem. Her motorcycle started up without a problem, and the lack of traffic in the early morning meant it was easy to make it to school and park. Humming the latest musical number she was getting involved with as she walked in, Alicia had a smile for everyone she passed as usual, at least until she made it most of the way to where her locker was located.

Suddenly, she was overcome with a swift and intense feeling of sadness that made her freeze in place for a moment. It lasted just for only a second, but it was so sudden that she did*’t have a response. It felt strange, because there was no reason for her to feel sad right now, and she hadn’t even had a slight inkling of such emotions before now.

Shaking her head in an attempt to clear it, she continued on, storing her helmet and jacket in her locker before grabbing the books and continuing on to the class. The oddities of the day got pushed to the back of her mind as she joined her normal group of friends near the front of the classroom, the smile returning to her face as they began the normal nonsense chats that cool kids had all the time these days.

((Quick5ilver, Is that more or less how Ryan’s power is supposed to work? I don’* want to overextend my reach, so if you don’* want something like that to happen tell me and I’ll get rid of it.))

Unlike all of her classmates, Ashlyn did not hear her alarm. Luckily, due to her muscle memory and circadian rhythm urging her awake, she awoke only 15 minutes late. She wouldn’t have time to run to school, but she’d just get a ride from her mom since she had to leave for work around the same time. However, as she began to start her daily routine of getting ready, the girl noticed something. She still hadn’t heard a sound. At first, she marked it up to the sleep still weighing heavily in her mind, but she very quickly realized she couldn’t hear anything.

To test her theory, Ashlyn started screaming. This had, of course, nothing to do with the rising fear of actually going deaf overnight, since who on earth would be scared about that? Her scream started rising in volume until she could actually hear it as clear as day. Of course, a scream wouldn’t go unnoticed by her mother, who ran into the girl’s room to check on her. “Are you okay?” her mother asked anxiously.

Yeah, mom… I’m fine. Thought I saw a spider, that’s all. Guess I haven’t completely the wiped the sleep from my eyes…
” Ashlyn replied, not motioning in any way to rub her eyes. If she did, would her sight vanish as well? That was a thought she did*’* want to know the answer of, even though it was pretty clear her mom was still suspect about her health. “
Hey, can I get a ride to school? I missed my alarm and I’d really appreciate it.

After an uneventful five minute ride to school, Ashlyn went inside and waved at her friends before reaching up to scratch her ear – it seemed her hearing was somewhat muted. This'll be fun. she thought to herself, with an audible sigh.
