Lol Toady, criticizing is fine. I could have done a lot more with this series. I'm not proud of the writing so much as the fact that I was committed enough to finish not just one story, but a whole trilogy. There will be more Guthix to come. As for Zamorak whining...I have an image in my head of the Gods as real people, but with special powers, and I fool around with that and try to make them as realistic as possible. I see Zamorak as sort of a bully, one of those guys who acts tough but has issues =P So when he gets picked on by his big brother, he caves a little.

Thanks for the comments, it's nice to get more opinions than "Sweet."

Next chapter on the way. Maybe two.

~-~ Chapter 13 ~-~

Saradomin blinked in surprise that his brother hadn't used the Spell, and nearly ruined his guise of innocence. "Really, brother? Do tell me, why aren't you using it? It seems so like you, to use the Spell. Chaotic, certainly. You've done something very wise. It's so unlike you, Zamorak," he chuckled.

Zamorak sneered, "Heavens! Get Guthix! Save the Balance, Zamorak did something wise! I'm not an idiot, brother. I have good reasons. First of all, I want to rule while you're up there, and the Spell would blow me up too. The whole point of this is to get rid of you and keep me alive. Secondly, there would be nothing for any of us to rule from the Heavens. No people to randomly blow up, manipulate, nothing! And that's no fun. Third, I want to watch you die. I can't do that while I'm being blown up. And fourth, it would be more than a bit messy. I'd be entering the Heavens with a broken nail, and that's really not my style." Pale lips pulled back in a smirk as he waited for Saradomin to reply. He had nearly lost his temper in that speech, but he pasted on a cool attitude to cover it.

Saradomin frowned. "Interesting. But brother, why do you want so badly to rule? 'Never do yourself what you can have others do better for you,'" he quoted. "Ruling is a terrible load of work. Why not just blow up some people and have your Zamorakians rule under your law?"

Zamorak snorted. "It's not the same, you know that. I want to have the power. And if my disciples were in power, do you think they'd listen to me? They'd probably form their own religion. Loyalty doesn't exist in the world of Chaos." Saradomin grunted in assent.

"Interesting. Then let's see where this leads. Something tells me it may come down to the Spell, brother," Saradomin replied sadly.

"Only if there's nothing else that can be done," Zamorak countered firmly.

Saradomin blinked surprise. "Agreed, brother."

Bydor and Theios were still locked in the fiery cage. Bydor only fought with half his energy, the other part of his mind focused on keeping the cage intact as spells collided with it. Each time one hit, he winced from a mental jolt. Theios considered using this to his advantage.

He raised his palms. Beams of light shot from each hand and lanced across the space to collide with the cage. They didn't bounce off, instead seemed to latch on and pierce it like a sword would pierce flesh. Some passed near Bydor, they were everywhere; up, down, left, right, everywhere. He flinched away from one and nearly collided with another. He had no doubt they would cut him if he touched one. Theios chuckled cruelly as Bydor’s mind buckled in agony and howled, crashing to his knees on his pillar of air. The attacks on the cage were like a sword slicing through his mind.

Then they suddenly bent, all slamming into Bydor's chest at once. It was like being stabbed with a thousand knives, only there was no blood. Bydor was thrown backward into the flaming mesh of the cage. He screamed as the fire seared his back. Then his mental control of the cage collapsed and it dissipated, allowing him to fall through. He tumbled hundreds of feet to the ground, like a flaming comet. He slammed through the thatched roof of a home and lay there. The flames spread from his clothing until they caught the entire building. Then it exploded in a shower of splinters and flame. Smoke billowed upward to Theios.

Bydor lay on the ground amidst the ruins of the home, panting with agony. Being a Chosen had other nice advantages, such as extreme durability. Such a fall was very painful, but bones didn’t shatter anymore. The pulsing in his mind finally stopped and he was able to think. He had to get control. He mustered all his strength and shot back into the air to face Theios. The Chosen of Saradomin sat smugly on his cloud, a triumphant smile twisting his lips into a sneer.

"I have a question," he called out.

Bydor stretched out on his own pillar of air. "I'm breathless to hear it," he sneered.

"Really? Well, I was wondering what happened back when Logaen was killed. One second you were all for saving him and resurrecting Guthix, then you go off and become Zamorak's Chosen. How does that work?"

Bydor rolled onto his back, glad for the lull in the fighting. He was exhausted, mentally and physically. "When we were in Falador, Logaen started talking to me. And...you know, I helped raise the boy. He came to our castle at age eight to be a page, then a squire to Amik Varze. I had been with him for so long. I cared a lot about him. When he was talking to me, I realized how much what I had done hurt him. I felt really guilty. So I agreed to help him, because I couldn't stand the pain I had caused him. It goes against everything Zamorakian, I know, but I...I cared so much about Logaen. When Zamorak killed him, the guilt just died with him. I was angry that Zamorak killed him, but it also reminded me that I served him and that I had a duty to him. Besides, I didn't dare disobey. Not when he was there in the flesh."

"So you were scared?" teased Theios.

"That was part of it, yes," agreed Bydor honestly.

"But you're mad at him for killing Logaen, right?"

"Yes," Bydor affirmed. "I do have a heart, you know."

Theios drifted closer and swallowed a sarcastic remark. "Say, Bydor, I have a proposal." His eyes glittered eagerly as they flickered up to the godly battle. Bydor backed up nervously.

"Which is?" he snapped.

"Kill Zamorak. If you destroy his body and then his soul, he'll be truly dead. His soul is what exists in heaven. Kill him and as his soul drifts off, destroy that too," Theios explained.

"Why should I?" asked Bydor suspiciously.

"If you kill him, you will become a god. You are bound to him and imbued with his powers. You will take his place. When you die, your soul will go to Heaven."

That was tempting. But Bydor doubted that it was free of some greater scheme. "Interesting. But you'd just kill me and leave me in Heaven, with you and Saradomin ruling the world."

Theios burst out laughing. "Have you forgotten all Saradominist teachings? Heavens, I'm new to it and even I know this! We don't want power. Just Order. We don't want to rule, unlike you. If you were willing to go back to Heaven, I trust Saradomin would too. You could set a new Chosen to rule in your place, just as I would rule in Saradomin's place. It would be balanced, fair. Doesn't that sound intriguing? 'Bydor's Chosen.' That has a nice ring to it, don't you think?"

Bydor leaned back. "Are you sure Saradomin would consent to go to Heaven too?"

"Yes," Theios insisted. "I'm sure."

"Then you've got a deal." Bydor grinned wickedly.

Gerrick watched in horror as Gods and Chosens plummeted earthward to smash the buildings of his city. When the house caught fire and exploded, it was too much. He sprinted back inside his castle, toward the dungeons. He knew the man was in there somewhere.

"Guard!" he snapped. The guard jumped to attention. "The monk that was brought in the other day. Bring him here!"

The burly red-headed man trotted off in a jangle of armor and sword. Just as Gerrick reached the end of his patience and was about to scream for the man again, he reappeared, dragging a small man with him. He threw the man down at Gerrick's feet and vanished to give them privacy.

"Are you the monk?" Gerrick snarled.

"Yes, my Lord," the man murmured. He was short and bent, dressed in plain brown robes tied with a rope around his waist. His bald pate gleamed in the dim torchlight. A ring of graying hair made a crown around the bald spot, and below his thoughtful amber eyes were wide with fear.

"Yer name?"

"I am Jed, my Lord."

"Jed. Well, I be needin' yer help. Walk wit' me." Gerrick turned on his heel and hurried up the stairs. The monk followed, padding soundlessly along the cold stone.

"How can I assist, my Lord?" Jed questioned.

"Don' interrupt me an' I'll tell yer," growled Gerrick. They now reached the top of the stairs. Gerrick grabbed Jed's arm and dragged him to the window, jabbing a finger at the sky. Explosions rocked the city, and the four battling figures clashed their magics again and again.

"See that?" he howled. Jed nodded mutely, too stunned to speak. "It needs to stop. Gods and Chosens be killing each other an' it's ruinin' my city."

"I don't understand, my Lord. I - I cannot stop Zamorak and Saradomin, nor their Chosens. I am but a humble monk."

"Yes, a monk," echoed Gerrick. "And are yer not a monk of Guthix?"

"I am, my Lord." Jed bowed his head in acknowledgment.

Gerrick grinned, feeling a great weight lifted from his chest. His kingdom would be saved. "Good. Yer gonner help me stop this mess by bringing back Guthix."
