i think your story is cheerier because your story doesnt have to do with a war, that is in the background yes, but, don't you think that, well the old man finding redemption is pretty cheery but, also think about it. it's about a man who has fought in a war for a really long time coming home to his family. theres nothing more cheerier than that.
