Y'know that short story I mentioned? Here's the prologue, a sort of preview for y'all:
Contained within this document is the most definitive and accurate re-telling of the events leading up and culminating in Ardhonmeth, the Gielinorian apocalypse.
The seventh age of Gielinor was the darkest the land had ever seen. The end of the fifth age was marked as the return to the land of Zaros, and for an age terrible wars were fought over the sovereignty of Gielinor. Great was the wrath of Zaros, matched only by his terrifying powers over magic and his hate for the gods that had banished him to the void.
His vengeance was terrible: Zamorack did not see the second dawn of the sixth age. For hundreds of years the remainder of the gods attempted to defeat him to no avail. Armadyl’s staff was broken, and soon too was the god. Saradomin’s death was wrought in the most terrible of all the battles fought: of the one thousand two hundred thousands of soldiers that fought in that battle a mere three and fifty survived. To the land of her elves Seren fled the battles in hopes they might survive the epic battles that ravaged all of Gielinor.
Of the gods fighting Zaros Guthix was the most powerful and thus the final battle was fought between Guthix and Zaros at the site of Gûrmindon, what was once known as Ardougne. Such was the might of the two gods that the armies pitted against each other were of no more significance than ants. The armies were both utterly destroyed and upon the plains of Thaurtalaf, an area spanning three hundred miles south of Gûrmindon, the single most impressive display of magic Gielinor had ever seen was performed by the warring gods. Such was the might of their magic that from the ground valleys and mountains were carved larger than any before seen in Gielinor. In the end Zaros was victorious but did not have the might to destroy his opponent, whom he rather imprisoned deep within a mountain with spells that taxed even him.
