And now, ladies and gentlemen, the moment you've all been waiting for has arrived. In three, two, one:

Chapter 31

Gul’dan was sure this was the end for him. All around him was blackness as terror bombarded his mind in waves of terrible strength. He couldn’t see, he couldn’t feel, and he couldn’t hear save for the roar of the dragons, which he heard with a clarity that an elf would envy. Through the darkness bombarding his mind Gul’dan thought he felt something brush up against his conscience but pushed it away, sure its intent was malign. It persisted, growing clearer and clearer through the murk of blackness caused by his fear. His resistance continued as the pressure on his conscience, and soon the pressure turned into multiple needles of pain stabbing into his mind.

The pain intensified until the pain was such that Gul’dan could no longer resist, and then with a rush the fear was gone and he was bombarded by a rush of awareness. His senses felt overloaded with information as he became aware of his environment again. After his eyes adjusted to the brightness he realized he was on his knees, his hands grasping at the dirt around him, his sword discarded by his side. Looking up he saw the Elven King looking down at him, his expression one of utter relief. “You have a strong mind. It was not easy to get through to you,” he said.

“I can thank my father for that. Many times it was the he stressed the importance of being able to resist malign magicks. As soon as he felt I was old enough he took me to he castle and to the Court Mage; the source for all the King’s magickal wants and needs, and the highest rank a mage can reach in Varrock. He taught me much that day, and gave me many exercises to keep my mental defences up. After that, once every year I was brought back to him and tested to make sure I had not slacked in my learning,” Gul’dan explained.

“Your father must have been an important man to have secured the aid of the Court mage in this matter,” the Elven King said, impressed.

*He was a Varrockian aristocrat, and the earl of a nearby township. Throughout his life he enjoyed a good relationship with the King and with his father before he died. He was a good man, and his death was mourned by many,” Gul’dan said, a look of remembrance on his face.

“Ah, that would explain it,” Galaphile said. “And I wonder, if you don’t mind my asking, how did your father die?” Before Gul’dan could open his mouth to answer another roar shook the air and the two were brought back to reality.

As Daernaur carried Edlenmin up to the temple of Saradomin an emotional tempest was swirling through his mind. Anger was the most prevalent, followed closely by concern for his wounded comrade. As he walked further his concern grew, and his anger at Baragûr began to give way to anger at the goblins, both for what they had done to him and also to for the injury they had dealt to Edlenmin. His strides were long and confident, and in very little time he had reached the temple.

The temple was usually one of the calmer and quieter areas of the fortress with few visitors. The day before, with the battle imminent and the knowledge that the healing powers of the priests would be in high demand, Daernaur and Edlenmin had been two of the many people to help turn the temple into an infirmary. Beds and healing supplies had been brought in, and many priests were drawn from the elven, human, and dwarven troops to aid in the healing effort.

The battle was still young, and thus the temple was quite devoid of injured troops. Many priests were moving around, clad in their distinctive white or brown robes. As soon as Daernaur was spotted with Edlenmin in his arms, bleeding, he was rushed in and Edlenmin laid on a bed to be examined.

The priest who had laid Edlenmin on the table wore a grim look on his visage, and as the wound was inspected it did not improve. More priests were called over, and as they viewed Edlenmin their faces turned grim. Noticing the expressions on the priests’ faces, Daernaur turned to them and asked with a quiet voice, “What’s wrong?”

The Head Priest looked down at him with a look of great sorrow on his face. “The wound, it’s poisoned. And we don’t have the antidote.”

Thank you for the praise Maashrooms :D

I do not currently have the entire story written down, but I have it all planned out, and I know pretty much how it'll end. Do check back often, as new material should be popping up on a more frequent basis now.

And where did you get the idea that Galaphile will die?

Chapter 32

Pain lanced through Edlenmin’s body like spears of fire from the wound in his side. Since he had been stabbed he had drifted in and out of consciousness, but could remember little of the events that had happened since he was wounded. He was aware now that he was in a temple, though only barely, and his grip on consciousness was weak. The area around his wound was beginning to numb, but Edlenmin’s feverish mind did not realize the symptoms as those of having been poisoned. He was sweating profusely, and the sheets around him were already damp from his perspiration.

Dimly through the haze that seemed to have settled over his mind Edlenmin thought he felt a comforting presence; a white figure in the black sea of his mind. The figure seemed to move closer, and as it did Edlenmin felt the haze lifting from his mind, the black giving way to grey, and then it was gone. The figure before him now was more than just a white light, and he could now see a face partially obscured by a thick, white beard running down the length of his chest. A feeling of peace and benevolence spread from him, and in a sudden moment of realization Edlenmin realized exactly who he was looking at.

"Sar..sar...Saradomin?” Edlenmin gasped.

“Yes, it is I. And no, you’re not dreaming,” Saradomin said.

“But, why are you here? Visiting me?” Edlenmin asked, amazed that a god would choose to visit him of all people.

“Because you are in my temple, and thus readily accessible to me. Also, you are not fully conscious, so it is easier for me to converse mentally with you than, say, your friend out there,” Saradomin stated simply. “And while I’m sure you’re glad to see me, I’m afraid that I do not bring with me good news. As you may or may not have heard for weeks the gods have detected another force of great magical magnitude in this land of Glienor. We monitored it, unsure of its nature and intent."

"While we are still unsure of it’s intent, we know that it is of sufficient magickal power to defeat many of the gods in single combat.”

“Whoa,” Edlenmin gasped. “If that is true, then what am I meant to do about it?”

“You personally? Nothing,” Saradomin said. “However the message I have for you is a warning to your entire army, and especially to your kings,” as he said this Saradomin’s voice seemed to drop lower, and a tone of dire warning crept into his voice as he said: “The force is drawing nearer and nearer to these fortresses. We know not which fortress it is targeting, but be on your guard. While we have no proof that its intent is malignant, we have no proof that it isn’t.”

“I will most certainly pass on your message, lord Saradomin,” Edlenmin said, somewhat overwhelmed by the fact that a god had chosen *him* to bring the attention of this urgent matter to the Kings.

“Also, as you may or may not know, the wound you received was poisoned. As if you died you would be unable to pass on my message, and as you passing on my message is of utmost importance, I have removed the poison from your system.” And with those sober words Saradomin’s figure faded out, leaving Edlenmin alone.

“What do you mean you don’t have the antidote?” Daernaur bellowed at the Head Priest. Fear for Edlenmin flooded his mind, but was quickly replaced with an overwhelming anger. He could feel the heat of his anger rush through his veins as he yelled at the priests: “You are supposed to be able to save people’s lives! How in hell’s name are you meant to do that if you don’t have the flaming antidote? HOW!?”

“Please calm yourself sir,* the Head Priest said, but his words were in vain.

“Calm myself? How am I meant to do that? My friend is lying there, dying, and all you can do is tell me to calm myself? Why I’ve half a mind to-” Daernaur’s rant was cut short when he saw Edlenmin beginning to stir.
